it ain't easy being a board guideMartin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0

No you're right Dave, but it is easy to send someone a rude or abusive PM if you hide behind an AE.It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

posting private messages on the forum is against the rules and people have been ppr'd for doing this in the past
however no one should have to put up with abuse (on the boards) or via pm, anything like that should be reported to abuse
edited to add: cross posted with Browntoa
Actually - I dont recall the exact wording of the rule that forbids re-publication of PM's on the Board - as it may be detailed enough policy to make it very plain.
however - I expect the policy isnt quite clear enough on this subject. I think the wording of the policy needs to be precise enough to make it plain that its not just against MSE policy to publish PMs - but also to make it plain that its an "offence" to even give any indication whatsoever as to the content of the PM or express an opinion on it. I think it may be possible under current policy for someone to stick to the letter of the law - and not publish a PM. BUT people sometimes dont stick to "the spirit of the law" and they give their own personal opinions on the Board of a PM they have received as if it were fact. It is easy for someone who dislikes a poster to make it sound as if a totally neutral PM has actually been a nasty one - when maybe it hasnt at all....
Sorry - MrsE - and not meaning to be critical in any way of your mentioning a PM - but I think the "law" on MSE does need to be clarified generally to make it plain to everyone who ever posts that no opinion whatsoever must be passed about the contents of a PM - as well as not reprinting it wholesale.0 -
I can't honestly understand why anyone would be intimidated by the fact someone is a Board Guide...if I think someone is wrong or being a prat then I will tell them regardless of some signature which I won't even bother to read.:rotfl:
Is that the point being made though (it could be but I am reading it differently) I think the point is that if you did as you suggest the chances are much higher of that post being pulled/thread closed/ you ppr'd than if the poster was a mere mortal. Even if you couched your response in polite terms, and terms that if used towards others would not elicit the same result.0 -
Contary to the (almost threatening) PM I've had, I started this as its something I'ver often though as an MSEer.
If after considering whether you are being overly sensitive you believe the pm was abusive or inappropriate in some way then please report it.
This site is a place for discussion, everyone had the right to an opinion etc etc without being attacked. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -

I was advised to "think very carefully" about the thread I started.
Maybe I read more Sopranos style meaning into it than there was.......
Its an issue I've mentioned a few times & I decided to start a thread on it.0 -
does martin really tell them personally , or do they just say that to look big?
If I remember correctly, Martin sent me a PM asking me look at the relevant info and adjust my sig.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

IF a board guide posts negative things towards another poster, it gives a green light (an unoffical stamp of approval) for others to wade in & follow suite.
This happened recently (& has happened in the past). If it wasn't "the board guide - the person in charge, who said things then I think others wouldn't think it quite so acceptable.0 -
i always forget to untick the box to remove my signature
I suppose we could always have an AE - but I don't think that would solve anything, would it! :rotfl:
There are times when I just don't post, because I can't say what I want without divulging more information than I'm prepared to.Ah so there is a facility to post civvie style.
As for the default being 'signature off', wouldn't that look 'wrong' when we make a BG kind of post and forget to put it on, as we would?Signature removed for peace of mind0
