    hi honeypop :),

a lot of it for me would probably relate to the circs of your first c/s. Do you know how long you were pushing for, were you in lithotomy position (on back knees bent) were you able to be active in labour, how heavy was baby honeypot 1, (also what was your own birth weight), what position did he/she present in, was there fetal distress that triggered the C/S?

All of these things would affect my decision re VBAC based on what I have read.

With the first one, I was induced at 41+5. Had waters broken, then nothing happened so put on drip (had 5 sweeps prior to all this). After about 2 hrs I had an epidural, so wasn't able to have the active birth I had planned and prepped for and I was gutted, so yes I was in the position you mention. 16 hours later I was 10cm and they realised he had turned back to back while I had been laying there in labour. I pushed for just over an hour, prepped for surgery but tried forceps first which failed. Don't think there was fetal distress, more that he was 'stuck' from what I can gather.

His birth weight was 7lb 15 (think mine was about 6.5lb).

I don't remember a lot about the whole labour and birth, my OH has to fill in the gaps when I talk about it. One thing I do remember is I kept asking when I could breastfeed baby, and 'they' kept saying to let myself recover a little first. 12 hours later, they were appalled that I hadn't attempted to feed him, although they had told me they would let me know and come and help me for the first feed!

Anyway, following that it turned out I had an infection inside where it may not have been cleaned out properly before being stitched up, then the wound got infected and the 6 weeks or so following birth are a bit of a blur too. I was re-admitted to hospital, sent home as they missed things, then on anti-biotics for 4 weeks.

I must admit initially I thought a VBAC was my only option as there had been no 'real' reason for my CS, it wasn't like either of us were in danger and I had progressed to 10cm and pushing stage. But when I was advised for a CS even following the infection I assumed that was for the best. I kind of resigned myself to the fact that was that, but now am feeling hopeful of a VBAC.

Excuse my pouring everything out on here, people have much worse problems (and are more regulars). I suddenly realise I haven't talked this through enough with anyone - except OH who wants whatever is best for me and baby - and I think I need more help.

CAFC, sorry you can't come to the meet :( Anything we can do?
    sorry being a spack!

No, unfortunately we cant afford it...which is sad.... but maybe this will spur the north eastern people to come and be my friend for a day..... :rotfl:
If you're around Gill, I think something like this would be a good addition to the treasure basket. Poundland do them. Also a balloon whisk would be good (did someone already say that). Maybe some pieces of fabrics, like fleece, satin etc. I'm planning to do one for H.

what about knitted toys? does that work? our charity shop had loads in the other day....

Hi sami, am feeling ok now, but was down at end of last week. Thank you for asking about me :A

honeypop, wow it does sound tough. I think all the mums on here who have had a v tough time in labour are v up for saying that everyone has the right to find what they found hard, hard. I had a moan after my very straightforward second labour (not that yours was straight-forward!) and tia, mm, sugarspun, buttons, gosh loads of people who I know had been thru very scary things were incredibly supportive. So what I'm saying is, no-one minds you saying it was tough. They aren't thinking 'shuddup what do you know?' or they would have with me IYSWIM?

Don't worry about popping in and out posting Honeypop, we're here to help were we can:)

I've just realised why you stuck in my memory, your LO shares my birthday :D

just another Qu/point for you to think about, how sure of your due date were you, did you have a regular cycle before conceiving. Maybe he just wasn't ready to come out.

nb. I apologise if I'm being pushy, it has been known :O I had 2 very simple, straight forward births so am occasionally guilty of pushing natural birth a bit too much :o

aww :( but yey, you're feeling better.:kisses3: You have been a busy bee the last month, I hope you didn't burn the candle at both ends :naughty:
I've just bought a recipe book about inspiring Children to enjoy veggies and I think a few are ripe for frugalising for the lunchbox planner ;) I shall report back on the correct thread when I've given them a whirl xxx

and PS. Honeypop - what Weezl says is true, we are often heard to say "It doesn't matter how your birth experience compares to others, its how it affected YOU that matters"

  • Don't feel bad honeypop, we are good at being a ball to bounce ideas off :) You vent away :)

I've woken up from a nap with a sore neck, and want some lunch but we have no food. It is a good thing that the shop is only next door. I'm feeling loads better for my nap though - I may even spend the afternoon being productive (well, doing some washing up at least) if I can manage it!

Lol thanks. I remember after the birth I posted a bit and it was really fast moving so I mainly lurked. Someone at the time described the thread as being at a big family party, you've got a couple of people having one discussion over there, another few people talking about something else over here, some more people on another topic over there, all at the same time but occasionally joining in on another topic if they have something to say. Very true it was and still is!

And Sami - now you mention it, my cycle was anything from 30 - 80odd days while TTC (15 months) then on Clomid for 2 cycles. I always wondered if the really weird cycle length would have affected the due date but as they were not a regular length it was dismissed as not something to worry about.

Thanks everyone, I think after only talking to people who hadn't had a successful VBAC it might have clouded my judgement, of course there are plenty of people who did it just fine and now my thinking is back to square one and heading down that route. Got plenty of time to sort it out!
