Looking for some ideas on how to get my 2 year old DD to eat some vegetables. She suffers a lot from constipation which Im trying to control by diet rather than keep giving her Lactolose, trouble is even though she is offered vegetables nearly every dinner time, she wont eat them! She will eat fruit but that doesnt seem to be doing much, its the green veg that she needs I think. Any ideas on how to get her to eat it? Or if I could try anything else that she might eat?
At the moment she will eat beans on toast, scrambled egg, omelette (could try putting veg into one of these I guess) and pasta. I do try and get her to eat a varied diet but on the nights that she refuses to eat her dinner I would rather she ate something than nothing because otherwise she wakes up hungry.
She has a bottle of milk before bed, cereals for breakfast (wont eat wheatabix) and a sandwich or something similar at the childminders for lunch, her snacks at the childminders are mainly fruit aswell.
Think Ive covered everything there!
TIA

hi there, my son (20 months) has chronic idiopathic constipation, now controlled by movicol. I understand your decision to try not to go down the Lactulose route , we had problems with it, and were very relieved to be able to switch.
Veg-wise, when we give my son a new veg, (sprouts and pickled red cabbage this week) he usually is a bit unsure at first, so we do what they did on 'house of tiny tearaways', so he gets lots of praise for just giving it a kiss, or a lick, and just tries one (like kristal said) which can then be upped. We also read that you need to try something 11 times before you acquire a taste for it, so we just make sure we try not to give up on a food till the 12th try! We also have a younger son who is at the eat everything stage, and we also praise him for eating up the sprouts, as it then also motivates our eldest to give it a go.
Hope some of those thoughts help.

BB4L have 100% extra free on all store cupboard items, have managed to get a lot of bread mixes, flour and other bits and pieces ordered. Glad my cupboards were cleared yesterday
CAFC have you looked into a dog walker etc? that way it would give you some time to do what you need to and someone will have tired him out so he would be less demanding. Glad to hear things are looking better and remember the nod and smile thing for the HV xx
Who is this BB4L of who you speak????:D
We couldnt afford a dog walker. Thing is DH is changing jobs soon hopefully where he picks his own hours so with any luck we'll be able to walk him twice day.... I picked a pug because they dont like much exercise, and what do I get? The exception to the rule :rotfl:Be good for me to get out with him though... i just feel like he misses out attention wise during the day, but i also think that might be because he hasnt been "fixed"... Have just got DH to agree to that so need to save up some pennies to get that done and see if it has any effect....
And is this the smile, nod, stick your fingers up ather back she leaves thing?:A
I think I'm just getting :(about doggy because im tired and my parents keep offering to take him LOL they love him and my dad desperately wants a dog and Gordon loves my dad, theyre thick as thieves when they are together....

Wonderful advice Weezl, I've no idea what to do about a picky eater because mine is still a vacuum cleaner in disguise.
My husband used to be one apparently and his parents would have pretend games at dinner - they'd make him pretend he was a giant and a sprout was a whole cabbage, and broccoli was a big tree. Apparently it made it a bit easier for him to enjoy it.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

Is it the taste or the look of the veg do you think? Maybe if you cooked a load with some tomatoes and whizzed it up for a pasta sauce do you think she would try that?
I'm going to try making weezl's hummous (when I finally get chickpeas!!) and get Josh to try carrots etc dipped in that. I like celery but think that's a step too far for him!Sealed Pot Challenge #817 £50 banked

For anyone who's not seen it, Tia's posted a mini update on facebook;
Quick update. Had a good night in yorkhill. Waiting on dicots rounds. No phone in the ward! Seems to be improving. Still no idea what caused it.

I see from FB that Amber had a good night and seems to be improving.
Day 4 sick, day 3 off work. I can't remember having this so many days off sick for a long long time. But I just can't make it in.
I'm taking my box of tissues and going back to bed. Will keep checking for news from Tia.0 -
Morning Ladies & Bruno.
Glad to hear Amber is improving - I hope they've had a comfortable night with lots of sleep.
DM11 What everyone else said - hiding veg in mash, soups or stews is a good tip. Maybe making a pizza together with sweetcorn, peppers etc on top in the shape of a funny face?!?
Mine have all been really good with eating pretty much everything although my 10 year old has now decided she doesn't like cooked carrots, only raw!
Also, we don't call broccoli broccoli, we call it tiny fairy trees, it seems to make it much more appitising. Cauli is fairies winter trees. Sprouts are pixies footballs, and so on.
Has anybody bought online prescription glasses?
I've had a search on the forums and the reviews seem to be really mixed, really good or really bad for the same supplier. I also seem to have just missed out on a really good deal through Groupon .
I have found out this week, it's really hard to drive at night in sunglasses.

Morning all, had a quick glance back but I have a baby who is refusing to nap and therefore mega grumpy and screamy!
Really hope Amber is getting better - lots of 'get well soon' vibes being sent.
Can't help with the vegetable issue though as I still have a very stubborn 5 yr old who refuses to eat any veg at all (except potatoes). Will be taking some of the advice given.
EA - can't wait to see scan pic.
Smartie - have fun at the baby group. I keep meaning to take Evie to one but I find them so intimidating, I used to take the older 2 to one and no-one really spoke to me. I am going to put my name down for the baby massage classes though and give it a try.
CAFC - hope you manage to sort something out with doggy. I know its not quite the same as a dog but we have a cat and I feel rotten as he gets little attention at the minute - I was thinking it might be better for him if we found him a new home.
I've had an email from bizzie baby - we've been selected to try out some nature babycare nappies.0 -
3 - we have used both SelectSpecs and GlassesDirect just fine here. Tend to just buy from whoever has the cheaper frames that DH likes. Both ship from China, though, so they do tend to take 2-3 weeks to arrive.
We just had some glasses from SelectSpecs actually, and the frame turned up bent. We sent it off to their UK lab and it was fixed and back to us within 3 days, so very efficient customer service
