Thanks all, will go look on HMRC. I can't do anything until I actually start the job, which is a bit poopy because we could obviously use that money now (not the childcare extra stuff, but more the extra TCs due to reduction in my income for the whole tax year).
top 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne

would like to win a holiday, please!!

Glad you got the job Aless, must be a relief! Bit poopy you can't get anything yet or at least put the form in as you know they take forever to actually pay you

I wasn't suggesting that - I just meant that someone on 16-23 hours per week is least likely to be better off without tax credits so it seems strange to remove them from those people.

I doubt it :p If they mess up your money (often) what are you supposed to do if you are living hand to mouth? (likely if you are on t'dole)

I remember when we were on joint JSA, we got a whopping £170 a fortnight, that's less than if you were singly claiming, so what, do you eat less if you are single :p

There's no explaining it really is there. When I lived on my own with the kids I was a size 10 and only ate salad and biscuits. Those were the days :D

I was light headed all the time and only recently found out I'd probably been very anaemic for years because I used to eat so much ice which is a sign it's quite bad apparently, but your body kind of 'gets used' to running on 3/4 tan so to speak and tries to keep you normal.

Probably how I managed to get life threateningly anaemic recently and still be up and talking:rotfl:

BM - your post literally made me LOL. My mum was sat next to me and wanted to know what I was laughing at. :rotfl:

Aless - congratulations on the new job :j

I held wee James :j He's 5 month's old today and it's the first time I've been able to give him a cuddle, I just about held it together and didn't blub :o He's so scrummy and his eye's follow your face while you talk to him :A

This describes our house perfectly, only I rarely manage a shower when OH is here because Edgar is worse in the evenings

I had good results when I put him in his highchair in the bathroom and brought him in with me once I'd used most of my many potions, He sometimes stops crying and plays happily in his cot (with many toys I fill it with just for such occasion)

It is a nightmare and at its worst point I hadn't had to do so many 'fringe washes' in my life :o:p

I have had a similar problem. When she wasa very little I showered when she napped, then strapped her into bouncer when awake. Once she was running around it got harder so we have system. After breakfast I settle her in front of cbeebies, and I have a super speedy shower. once I'm out (about 30 seconds!) she 'helps' me get dressed and sits on bed chatting with me. holds brushes while I dry hair etc. If she won't settle or I need longer thn 30 secs she comes in too - Its quite fun really.....
Many of those will automatically go with the quangos they axed last week I reckon...

...which should in turn create a proportion of those jobs in the public sector undertaking the same functions...

...and anyone who works with the public sector in any way will know that there is a huge amount of inefficiency and red tape/arris covering which creates the need for huge amounts of (ultimately unnecessary) members of staff.

They have already slashed a ton of the stupid targets which required tons of arris covering, it stands to reason that there will be less need to have as many employees.

    Agreed. I thought the same.

We all know that offering things out on here isn't allowed - there is a FB group set up for a reason. We have got away with bending the rules for a while but at the end of the day the BGs have a job to do and its unfair to shoot the messenger as it were, when they carry out their obligations. If you spot rules being broken in here or other threads then you have a moral duty to report it
    </mardy strop>:)

I also agree. We did all read the site T&Cs didn't we :rotfl: Plus, I can assure you that glad is actully a lovely person in RL. I know her :D She's just ensuring the rules of the forum are kept. As for people on other threads not liking us, well, thats a shame. I would hope that I wasn't cliquey and was warm and friendly to everyone, but it is a seperate matter that I'm not that bothered about really :rotfl: Anyway, I've said my tuppence now so :p (please still be my friend:o:D :rotfl: )

ETA - I'll drop it after this I promise. I think that its a safety thing really. The first time I'd met anyone from mse, it was retty anon. We knew names and met in big public space with lots of us - then it's up to us if we exchnge further detailed, but if its to be policed so closely, we can stop mentioning it :D

    right - i'll shut up now :D

Oh right, yes! No, they wouldn't - though people moan about single parents working those hours as they can sometimes be getting paid more in TC than they actually earn themselves. But that's just how it goes when minimum wage is ridiculously low.

If I was working 20 hours a week on 6PH, I'd get about £120. Tax credits would be giving me £127 (I checked on entitledto)

    Go figure!

That's why places like tesco would rather have 2 part timers than one full timer, they can fill the jobs easier that way.

You'd have to be mad to work 40 hours when you can do 16 for the same money.

True, but also not many single parents can actually work 40 hours a week without running up debt on a credit card. Have you seen the cost of childcare *strokes*

If I was to work fulltime it would cost me about £35/40 a day for Keira to go into a nursery, like what would be the point? Not like anyone will pay me £30k a year :rotfl:After bus fares/childcare, I'd be lucky to have a spare tenner :rotfl:

And I was told when I went for a lone parent interview back in the day that if you're 5 minutes late to sign on they don't let you and you get no money  That was a fair while ago though, maybe they have grown a conscience since then :p
If they'd ever done that to me I would have chased them till I got the money. It was fairly standard for me to have to wait at least thrity minutes though so they would never have noticed if I was late. You also don't get your money if they forget to tick the box on the computer when you sign on. We were okay because we had enough money and I noticed on our online banking but some people would be totally stuffed as they don't even tell you.

Food may not cost less but other things do. When we got married, we were instantly saving about £1000 per year by renting one house instead of two flats. As a couple you also have less council tax than two single people and you likely don't spend as much on utilities/phone/internet etc. Even now we still don't spend as much as 50% more than I did when single.
