  • Hi there im new and trying to save/get some money back as I am skint at this present time. I worked for my last employer for 5 years and previously 1 year at another company. Do i list both companies or just the most recent one. An would my payroll department have changed over the two jobs? Also what is the estimated time for the claim to come good an receive the money.

    Many thanks

Look out any P60's that you were given in your past 6 years of employment. There will be reference numbers on these of where your employer is registered to submit their PAYE taxes. If the address is not shown, HMRC web site has a list of them and you can find it that way. Form P87 is correct form to use. Can be printed to fill in from HMRC site. Send in original P60's to relevant tax offices (keep copies) and explain what you are claiming for. I think you can go back to 2005/6 tax year. However, it will take time for the records to be traced and verified, so do not expect a quick rebate.
We got £54 and I still have to do last years yet.

My mum has just successfully had her tax code amended to reflect rebate for 6 years of tax back. We used this letter, which I think I found from MSE

    http://www.taxfix.co.uk/forum/can-i-get-a-rebate-for-washing-my-work-clothes.html

We were thinking a cheque would come but her tax code has been amended instead. She works for the local council in a care home and wears a polo shirt and trousers with council logos on.

Thanks to this thread mums about £50 a month better off at the moment.
