Any ideas what a field telecom engineer would claim? installing data cabling and telephone switches...

I'd like to claim for the full £120 but whats the difference between these?

Tell them you believe to be claiming £120 and to rectify it if this is not correct. Youve nothing to lose

These rates are supposed to allow for all the costs of maintaining your uniform, protective clothing and equipment not just laundry. I'd claim the higher one but it might be worth pointing out exactly what other equipment you have to look after other than just washing your uniform.

Hello, i enquired tonight about this and actually spoke to Revenue and customs. I hope i can clear things up for people.

IF you wear a logo'd uniform which you wash yourself and the company dont pay or have a laundering facility.

YOU CAN MORE THAN LIKELY MAKE A CLAIM.

Even if you don't work there no more.

You need to write them a letter telling them of the info include.
    • Your occupation
    • that the uniform is logo'd
    • you company don't pay or have facilities to wash uniform
    • how long youve been at the company (maximum of 6 years backdated)
    • also if you prefer the rebate in cash or tax code change.
    • Was told on phone to write REPAYMENT CLAIM on envelope and letter to speed things up.
    Here is the number i rang 0845 3000 627

I have been told i'd be expecting around £120 not bad for a letter and stamp, i think whole process is around 4-5 weeks.

    I'll keep this updated.

I recieved a letter today 21/7/11, stating that my tax code would change, so id be £120 per year better off albeit via a tax code increase. but money is money in any form. Took just over a week

Would LOVE to do this but my husbands work isn't on there :(

I am sick of washing his uniform as it gets so dirty :rotfl:

That's really Odd, you need to wash them or probably send his clothes to a laundry shop.
    Late in the room:beer:

It's been said a lot of times on here, probably worth saying again. You don't actually get the £120 just the tax on it, which for a 20% tax payer is £24 per year. Still worth doing though.

If you check this site there is a calculator which tells you how much your claim is worth: http://www.uniformtaxrebate.co.uk/

Yeah youre right, but u know my tax code has gone up so i can earn an extra £120 a year extra before tax, plus having it backdated so i should be recieing around £120 Cheque too (confirmed over the phone)

a couple of weeks ago I sent a letter asking for £262 for the past 6 years for uniform cleaning.

Today I got a letter and a cheque for £1052.74, not just for uniform cleaning, but for other things aswell. Don't think i would of got this if i didn't purchase a 1st class stamp to post the letter.

    Happy days
  • Hi.
I work in a care home and although our uniform doesn't have a logo, we MUST wear black trousers, black shoes etc.
Would I be entitled to money back?

    I think not.
I might be wrong but a definitive case was the lady barrister who was told that only the wig counted - the rest of the gear "could" be worn in her own time.
Perhaps your employer should think of providing you with a uniform?
