Great thread! Hopefully I might end up with some holiday spends! :-)
Is there anything else I really need to add to this letter?
Dear Inland Revenue
RE: Expenses Allowance
I have been employed as a Nurse at XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX since January 2003. I am obliged to launder the uniform, which is supplied to me by the NHS Trust. I therefore wish to claim an expenses allowance of £100 for this tax year, and the previous 2 years covering the tax periods of 2008-2009 and 2009-2010, and £70 per year for the 4 years preceeding this. I also wish to claim an allowance of £12 and £6 per year respectively for this tax period and the previous 6 years for providing my own shoes and tights which are of a prescriptive nature as outlined in the uniform policy provided to me by the NHS Trust I work for.
Lastly, as part of my role as a Registered Nurse, I am obliged to pay professional fees to the Nursing and Midwifery Council. This ensures that my name is entered onto the Professional Register, and entitles me to work as a Nurse within the UK. I understand that I may therefore claim tax relief for this tax period and the preceeding 6 years. The fees payable to the Nursing and Midwifery Council have averaged £63 per year although since 2008 the fee has been £76 per year. Although not compulsory, it is highly recommended that we, as healthcare professionals, are part of a recognised professional union. I therefore wish to claim relief on my fees paid to UNISON who I am a member of. My yearly subscription to UNISON is £207 and I believe I am entitled to claim relief on 70% of this which equates to £144.90 for this tax period, 2007-2008,2008-2009 and 2009-2010. Before this I wish to claim relief on my fees of £168 per year (70% of which is £117.60) as UNISON fees are adjusted depending on pay
I would be grateful if any monies due to me are paid by PAYABLE ORDER and my tax code for future years adjusted accordingly

Looks pretty comprehensive. But 'Inland Revenue' changed to HMRC (HM Revenue and Customs) several years ago ..... if you were intending to head it that way.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -

Hi there. I claim to HMR&C for Flat Rate Job Expenses from 6 years backword on Apr 2011. After over month (on 20 May) I receive letter from them then they change my Tax code from 747L to 822L. They said then my Earlier Years Adjustment was £632. They put this on my new Tax code so I will pay less this year but... I do tot expect then they will work like that. I expect then they will send me explanation and then will ask me for repayment option. I call them just after I receive this letter and ask did they can send me a paylable order on £632. Unfortunately they told me then is to late and they can't change that now.
Is anything else then I can do about? Any advice? Its Lot;s of money. I dont think then I will notice that when they spread that on whole year.:(0
