Are part of her union fees tax deductible?

Not sure. I'll look into this.

if she is RCN registered I am surprised she has missed the form they supply?
    https://www.rcn.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0007/444238/TAX-FORM-15_16.pdf

note this form is NOT an agency / claims recovery company one, it is purely a form you submit direct to HMRC and HMRC will pay any rebate direct to you without deduction of any middleman commission

Do not use a claims company, making a claim is as simple as the above form, don't pay someone else to do this for you

Fantastic! We've been having trouble getting through to HMRC regarding this whilst looking for advice, and it looks like this is the answer. She is a member of RCN, but she didn't notice this form. We'll fill it in and see where we go with it.

    Many thanks again.

Hi, wondering If anyone can help.

My Son just got a letter through from a claims company saying he may be entitled to a tax rebate.

I said it's probably a scam but checked and it seems not! They want 24% of any monies.

He works for the Royal Mail and has done for over 5years - his tax code is 1072L/0.

Anyone know If he's due anything?

    Thanks.

Do not use a claims company. He can check it so easily himself. As the normal code is 1060L it looks as if he is already claiming for uniform laundering but he could always ring them and check for himself.

It should already be in a posties tax code.

So he shouldn't bother asking then I suppose, I'll let him know.

UPDATE: My partner got her cheque through the door on the weekend from HMRC... £1,100!! We're over the moon with that! Everyone should give it a go, especially nurses!
  • My Daughter in law was told by a colleague at work about a Company called: 'Uniform Tax Rebate' and she printed out the forms for them to fill out, the online calculator estimated her rebate to be £900.
The forms were sent and then, nothing. She waited the regulation 7weeks before contacting them, something that was very difficult to do, but she did get a reply telling her that the 'cheque is in the post'. another month and still nothing. Several emails sent before a: 'your cheque is in the post' which it wasn't. She contacted the real tax office and they told her that the cheque had been sent to 'Uniform Tax rebate' and that there was nothing they can do to help as she had signed up through 'UTR'.
We are at a loss to know what we can do about this, UTR can only be contacted by email, and they mostly either ignore those, or tell you the 'cheque is in the post' Is there anything we can do?
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

despite countless posts saying never use a middleman company she has now authorised them to act on her behalf as her "agent" and therefore HMRC have no liability to her at all as they have followed "her" instructions and sent the payment to UTR

her only recourse is to read the contract she signed with UTR and chase them for breach of contract. She can of course search the internet for a real physical address for the company but I'm sure you realise there is not much she can do to make them pay her other than take them to court for breach of contract

she must however write to HMRC and tell them that she is rescinding her previous authorisation of UTR as her agent, otherwise HMRC will continue to send any future rebate cheques to them
