the Met Police give relief at source for Police Federation fees (unlike other Police services) but there is no evidence on HMRC that the same happens for laundry

check with your payroll or look at your tax code letter and see what adjustments have been made

Thank you. I'll look into it.

I put in a claim for the last four years and recived a cheque for a little over one-hundred pounds. Great!! The tax code has been amended as well so my allowance has been increased too. Can't argue with that.

N.B remember to include ALL the relevant info so as not to delay the claim.
  • According to HMRC website, if the employer provides the uniform, it should be declared as a taxable benefit on the P11D. Does anyone have any experience relating to this?
  • Hi,

is it ok to ask rather than trawling through 90 odd pages.. when I write the letter to the tax office do I say I want the money in a cheque rather than deducting from tax allowance etc? If that makes sense. thanks in anticipation:)

You can request a cheque for any previous years you're claiming for. If the expense is continuing then it'll be put into your tax code for this and subsequent years.

No it would be one allowance, just the same as you have one personal tax-free allowance.

I always thought it was one allowance per job, unless you wear the same uniform for both jobs.
After all, if his 2 part time jobs were with Tesco and Asda, he wouldn’t be too popular if he turned up at Tesco dressed as an Asda Ace would he?

I'm sure you must be correct jimmo as you're more likely to know for sure than I am.

Just seems strange as you don't get a personal allowance for each job.

Presumably he wouldn't need twice as much washing for 2 part-time jobs than he would for one full-time job? Unless of course he wears both uniforms at the same time.

but then the allowance doesnt discriminate on any costs.
