The cheque (is there is one) will come in a separate letter. If the revised tax code has an entry listed as 'earlier year adjustment' or similar then you won't get a cheque, it'll come through your wages when your employer operates the new code.0

Hi,
Great post! I have been working as an air-hostess for 7 years. I understand I can only claim for the last 4 years. Am i correct in thinking I could claim 4 x £60 back as I have to wear a uniform??
Thanks in advance
EDIT: sorry have just realised it's 4 x £60 x 20%. So £48. Will give it a go and let you know how i get on! Any other airline staff had any success?0 -

you will have no difficulty at all with your claim as BALPA have negotiated a specific rate for flight deck crew and in the guide to that rate it refers to cabin crew not being entitled to this higher rate so the clear implication is cabin crew fall under the normal £60 rate

(FRE stands for flat rate expense and is HMRC's technical term for your £60 allowance)
PS - do you have to pay for key parts of your uniform yourself? If yes then you can claim the tax on the money your yourself spent - of course if your airline buys it for you then you can't claim - have a read of this...

Any military members had any joy?
I sent a letter last year asking for a rebate, but they said i had to wait out as HMRC and the Armed Forces were talking it through, that was back in April and being away for a while has lead me only sending another letter today and the only update i have seen is that Officers get the rebate via their tax code.
Only officers, Hmmm. Why not the soldiers who actually get their kit dirty. Or have i missed something?0 -
Single soldiers may have had washing machines provided but no detergent. So not sure how that works for them. Sometimes washing machines aren't provided.
Married soldiers obviously do not have access to military funded washing machines and would use the ones in our house, so should be entitled.
The only time when laundry facilities are provided is when we are abroad and more often than not up to standard.0 -
