    Hi there,

I think the current rebate limit is £60 for each year since 2008, so I would put that

How do I find the address for the Tax Office my employers use? It just says Manchester Chapel Wharf on my P60 and I acnt find anything else. I presume this is where I need to send my letter?

Hello, currently trying to fill this out for hubby and getting a little confused.

He works as an AV engineer, looking at HRMC's chart, he doesn't come under any special category, so it's just a flat £60? And somebody mentioned it is 20% (basic taxpayer) of £60, so is it only £7.20 per year?

    Sorry! Confused!

if he wears a logo'd uniform and is not one of the listed occupations then HMRC assess it as costing you £60 per year in laundry costs. You claim that and get back the tax on £60 at whatever your tax rate is , if he is basic rate then 20% of £60 is £12 not £7.20.

    Doh! Thanks.

For some reason I thought £12 in my head, ran it through a calculator to check and managed to put 12% tax instead of 20! :o

OK very thick person here when it comes to letter writing so be kind :)
Does my address go on the right and the HMRC address go on the left?
As you can guess I never have to write letters and have decided to try for the Uniform Tax along with claiming for delayed flight compensation.
Fingers crossed in both cases but don't want to look completely illiterate ;)

    Hi there

I usually put my address on the top right hand side and the business address further down the left hand side, no worries, oh and date a little bit down under your address, good luck.;)

Use a simple sheet of A4 paper.

    Fold it in three.

Then put it in an oblong window envelope. There is no chance that the wrong letter could get into the wrong envelope.

Does not always work: Once working with an Inland Revenue officer in the good old days before computers ran the staff not vice versa, he had to phone me two days running to say that "You will never believe it but the automatic letter opening machine has chewed up your letter again".
  • I sent my letter about the uniform tax rebate and got a letter from the tax office saying they have changed my tax code but no mention of the money back?? Any ideas??
