  • Refunds will be paid by cheque (if you request it), but it will be coded out in future years to give you the relief as you get paid.

  • hi all, I need a bit of info, I work for my local council, and work with in a unit for adults with learning disabilities, but don't get issued with a uniform, I have to use my own clothes which have to be washed everyday due to cleaning service users (hope ppl will understand what I mean) as my clothes have to be washed all the time, there is wear and tear and I have to go and get something else to wear for work, just wondering if I can claim anything back, just wondering, thxs

no you cannot claim anything as you do not wear a uniform nor do you wear personal protective equipment (eg overalls). You are the same as everyone else who wears clothing for modesty purposes not for purposes of promoting the corporate brand

Just what to expect when dealing with HMRC. Put in another claim and it's likely to be accepted.

What reason did they give for the rejection?
  • something about missing the deadline for tax returns, as if I were self employed or a company. i haven't filled in a tax return for about 5 years as i am now employed PAYE, i informed them of this years ago and now don't get the pleasure of filling in a tax return, all this should be on their records.

I work for an employment agency in the IT dept, and have to wear a polo shirt provided by them with company logo on for when I'm visiting offices.

When I'm at head office i generally wear shirt and trousers as less chance I'll be crawling along floors or climbing over tables.

I can't see IT workers listed in the industry sector, or where employment agency would even fit in.

Is it worth me trying this?

    It only costs a stamp

Well that's one expensive stamp my girlfriend bought. She had a rebate of £395 and also applied for Utax which totalled £11...and for the £11 they are taking over £70 in agent fees. The reasoning they say is because they are getting her back £395 and won't listen that the £395 is for a tax rebate.

e: she went through u-tax.co.uk she thinks but she was never given any T&C's to say she was having all these fees taken. Surely not providing T&C's stating their fees is illegal?
