If you did complete SA Returns for previous years - then it clearly isn't straightforward. You really need to go back and amend the Returns ..... and you can't do that because time limits apply.

I seem to be in the same boat as the OP. Had my letter back today saying they could only review 09/10 and 10/11. If I want to amend the previous years I need to complete the attahced form, which is the form for overpayment relief.

I was wondering if yourself and anyone else would be able to assist:

Amount of relief claimed: Is this how much the laundry allowance would be?
Grounds for the claim: Laundry allowance

  • Amount of relief claimed: Is this how much the laundry allowance would be?
Grounds for the claim: Laundry allowance

Just gave HMRC a call and if you have to complete an overpayment relief form, the above is correct. If your unsure as to what you should be claiming, in the "Amount of relief claimed" - Explain you cant find an amount for your occupation and write what you had to wear.
  • With help from this website and forum I typed my letter and sent it off around 5 weeks ago. Thanks! On saturday I received a letter back from them showing how much repayment I was due from 2005-2006 till present day. This totalled £145 not bad! Yesterday I received another letter explaining my tax code adjustment for the remainder of this year and another adjustment for next year. In my letter I stated that I would like my rebabte to be paid in the form of a cheque. How long usually does the cheque take to come through once they have acknowledged I am eligible for a rebate?

    Regards
  • I'm a happy bunny today.

After a letter on the 14th Feb telling me I couldn't claim an allowance because my health board had laundry facilities (their turnaround is ten days....I have 5 sets of scrubs....err....) and after badgering the bosses of the health board, I have got their status changed so can now claim for uniform laundering!!

has been a bit of a battle, and getting through to HMRC sometimes has been a nightmare but perseverance pays off and am now able to claim for past 6 years for : laundering uniforms, NMC registration, shoes etc. (did try claiming for pens but maybe that was pushing it a bit :rotfl: )

will be getting code changed and a nice cheque for the rest. So happy that hard work has finally paid off. Its been a battle but one worth fighting!!

You can claim. But if you don't pay tax it's pointless? As this is additional relief against tax.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • Well I'd like to say thank you for bringing this to my attention. I sent my letter off a few weeks ago and received notification today that I'm getting a cheque covering 2006 - now for £303.72!!

I'm over the moon and trying to decide what to spend the money on.:j

    Thanks again!
  • Would like to say all thanks for this thread, been meaning to do this for ages for various part time work since 2006. Looks like my claim is well on it's way and have confirmed I will recieve £60 and more on confirmation of my details for a job I had 2006-2008.

Also sorted out my overpaid tax from summer and got £330 in my wages today :j
There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well...

Anyone else had the industry request letter?

I got a letter back asking a few questions, one of which was the above, is this the normal to get a letter back before they make the final assessment?

They asked me to clarify What Industry I work in, Job Title, Whether company provide Laundry Facilities (which was stated in original letter) and whether employer provides coupons/payments for laundry.

I have answered these and will be posting the letter off tomorrow.

The only other strange thing is that I started full time employment with current employer on 2nd April 2007, however when they wrote back they stated it was 2nd May 2007 and that I needed to amend my 2007/2008 tax return.

I got issued a tax return for 07/08, but I never submitted (upon advice from employer) as I made sure I started working on a new tax year (I was self employed and ended working more and more for company I am now full time with and got them to offer me a FT job) so there was no overlap on tax years. Am I opening a can of worms here? and also is the date difference a big issue?

    Thanks for replies in advance.

    Cheers

    Dan
