Can i also claim for providing my own scissors?

Yes, but you need to list the cost of providing the scissors in each tax year within your letter.
  • Had a reply to say that DH isn't due a rebate as he already receives an allowance for laundry in his tax code (must have applied before, but can't remember doing so)
However, in that case, why would we both have the same tax code (755L)? I don't qualify as I don't wear a uniform and have never applied to claim for such.

    Does this sound right?

  • OK, I've worked for a certain "Cross Channel Train Company" since March 2008, so have written my letter to clim back expenses for that, however, I was also employed as a Retained Firefighter from 2004-2010 - does anyone know if I can claim for that job as well?

I have included that in my letter anyway, so here's hoping I get a nice little cheque back from them..........

    Will keep you all updated.

    Carlos.

    Hi everyone.

I recently applied a tax rebate for washing my uniform at home. I have received a letter today saying they are happy to reveiw my application once I confirm to them what the expences of £23 in my tax code relate to.

I have absolutely no idea!! I have checked my tax code & it is currently 749L. I believe the standard code is 747L? I have checked back through my payslips for the past 6 years and my tax code has always been 2 digits higher than the standard code for that particular year.

Has anyone else had anything similar? I've got a funny feeling I'm going to end up out of pocket here!

I'm employed by BT as a telecoms engineer.

    Many thanks.

Tax code 755L would suggest an allowance for £80 so yes it's already being applied.

Normal tax code is 747L which is what you should have if you have not claimed for any allowance. I suggest you contact HMRC and find out why you have that extra allowance.

Could also mean you're being paid back an error in an earlier year's tax or you're getting some other expenses coded into your allowance.

    Check your notice of coding.

The standard allowance would be £60 which would exceed any £23 of expenses you have coded in. I've got a feeling BT may have a locally agreed allowance for this which would usually be more than £60 but only HMR&C can confirm this if they refer to their employer notes.

Thanks a lot for that. I think I'll be best giving HMR&C a call tomorrow to see what they say.

    Thanks again
  • I've applied for a uniform rebate for my husband for the last six years

Today I got a new tax code with £60 on more for this tax year

Is that it? Or will we get a cheque aswell for previous years?

You should still have to get a rebate for the other years, probably in the form of a cheque.
