  • We have had it good for a while, and it's a gift from the company so really it's a bit out of order to be complaining I think.

I'm staggered that anyone would think this way. It isn't in any way a gift from Tesco - it's just a return of a very tiny part of the vast profits Tesco make from charging their customers vastly more than they need to charge.

And on top of that, all the data you freely hand to Tesco by using the scheme is worth millions every year to Tesco.

Tesco are cutting back on the scheme because they reckon - probably correctly - that they can get away with it. Soon the double points will go, and the result will be that they've cut the payouts by a third, and increased their profits still further.

You are right, they will most likely get away with it.
Their scheme is one of the most generous schemes still. That is why they are confident they will get away with it.

Just because they make profit, I find it staggering how many people think that companies should give their profit away... I doubt self employed people on here do!!!!

I don't think anyone is happy that it is changing. I think there will be few people that will stop shopping at Tesco - if this number will become large then Tesco will do again special promotions more often to get them back.

It's never ending circle and it always will be.

I would save my nerves for when something bad actually happen in life.
  • I said it when Tesco changed the rules for R&R and I'll say it again;

It's the people who incessantly go out of their way to abuse companies' goodwill gestures and abuse offers to an abnormal degree that ruin it for the rest of us.

Eg. buying dozens of printer inks to accrue abnormal amounts of points and reselling said inks. You can be sure this was never in their planning when Tesco came up with a "genuine" offer to customers who buy printer inks.

Am sure this abuse has again contributed, in part, to this change.

Probably more to do with people selling the deals vouchers on Ebay to be honest as this will really hit resale value , which is a good thing. However I have been saving mine ( most at the single rate) for years and now they have moved the goal posts. If i used them within weeks of recieving them then it wouldnt be an issue.

I did not exploit offers either, i just looked at everything that gave clubcard points, be it savings accounts, insurance, clubcard plus account, credit cards, EON etc , etc.

However, how long before double points stops? Then we will have lost out because i cant see that going on forever!
  • Awe gutted!! I usually change my vouchers to Pizza Express vouchers!! Wont get as many pizzas anymore!!

Pizza Express always seem to have discount vouchers available - usually along the lines of BOGOF so you can sort of get things half price. If there's anyhing else you prefer to spend your deals vouchers on then you might as well do that anyway.

...I think he/she may realise exactly how savvy people are about the voucher scheme.

He'd better hope they don't go further and start costing up exactly how much everything does cost them in Tesco. ...often more than Waitrose or M&S.

Thanks for the 'Heads-up' on this.

We have £400 (£1600 - soon to be £1200) worth so will need to book a luxury hotel somewhere.

All obtained in the normal way over a few years.

Good point. It's surprising how many things we buy regularly are actually cheaper in Waitrose than Tesco - and it's an immensely more pleasurable place to shop than Tesco.

Personally, I think a Lidl/Waitrose combination gives you the best of both worlds - Lidl for the basics, and Waitrose for the rest. Tesco rarely gets a look in these days for us, and one of the reasons is that the Clubcard points aren't worth having any more.

I find the magazine subscriptions and days out to be the most rewarding. This has saved me hundreds over the years.

By the way, are Tescos and Tesco's recognised trading names for Tesco? Or perhaps I've been misreading those big red and blue signs on the stores.

For all those interested in Butlins. I would point out that when I last enquired about doing this, Butlins absolutely withdrew every other discount normally offered were I to pay with Tesco clubcard vouchers. So do the math carefully to see that it's worth burning through your vouchers at Butlins. Obviously, if there's no other clubcard offer that tickles your fancy, then go ahead.
