our 'not quite venture' company called 6 months later offering us the CD for 50 squid but we couldn't afford it.

i got junk email yesterday from somebody offering a free poster blown up from your favourite photo as a joining offer, i thought about getting my venture-style pic done but not sure what the quality would be like as it's just a scan-in.

at the toddler group yesterday we had a 'tempest' photographer in. they do the school photos too and are cheap but it's not a venture-style pic, it's just kids sitting still and smiling. i saw the photo she took on-screen and loved it, but then i suppose everybody loves pics of their own babies. i will definitely be buying it but in MSE style will probably buy one and then copy it for everyone. the photographers can vary though, we've had awful ones at school before. this one was good at taking the photo at the right time but not so good at making babies smile, the mums had to do it.

  • Before I qualified as a professional photographer with BIPP and The MPA, I was approached by Venture in a shopping centre. I bought the £25 voucher and booked a session at their local studio. I couldn't make the first session and was told that I could reschedule one more time. Unfortunately, I couldn't make that appt either, so they wouldn't reschedule. I never did go to Venture in the end.

We're a husband and wife team based in Beckenham, Kent - take a look at our site https://www.imageXperience.co.uk and if you like the images, drop us a line. We have got some new images to upload, however, we're waiting for our clients to preview and give us authorisation to publish them.

We've photographed the likes of Reggie Yates, MC Harvey, Aml Ameen (PC Lewis in the Bill), Keisha White (singer) and Chucky Venice (Footballers' wives).

It's been interesting reading your thread and thanks for taking the time to read my post.

    All the best

We went through the Venture experience almost 4 years ago now. My wife was approached in a supermarket entrance when we were visiting my father in Yorkshire to fill in a questionnaire. We 'won' a voucher for a sitting and a free 5x7 in framed photograph. We'd been looking for a 'different' type of photograph for our then 2 years old for quite a while. Before we went, we had a look on their website at their images. The studio we went to was in Shipley, West Yorks and the photographer there - whose name I can't remember - was absolutely brilliant. He got some excellent photos of our daughter and us. He immediately put her at ease, interacted with her and basically made the whole session fun. I would highly recommend that studio.

We wanted a large image for our dining room - having just extended the house - but my wife & I couldn't agree on which of the 45 photos they'd got for us to look at we liked best - so we bought 2, and an album of 15 prints and 3 framed 5x7 prints for gifts for grandparents etc. Yes, we paid a lot of money for them. do we regret it - not for a minute!

Having said that, we wouldn't go back as they are expensive and I feel that there are other photographers who can do equally as good a job for a lot less.

We're now looking for a photographer who can take pictures of our daughter (now aged 6) and her younger brother (3). We've looked around locally - since we don't actually live anywhere near Shipley and as with all these things, the photographs you get back are down to the photographer who takes them, rather than the company they work for!

There are lots of good photographers out there - we've found one locally to us (Staffordshire) whose work is equally as good, so that is where we'll be heading.

Don't leap too soon without looking at the alternatives. But if you can afford Venture, they are good, just be aware other photographers can be equally as good. Venture specialise in not doing 'normal' studio sittings, they're more action based and therefore different. They also frame their prints well, and that does make all the difference.

Has anyone been to Mothercare FOR PHOTOS? They charge £10 pound for photo session including a 10" x 12" photo. Then you can pay for extra if you like. (so they say)

Never used them! Just a thought?

Any chance you could say where you are going?

We live in Staffs and would much prefer a recommendation of a photographer than taking pot luck :)
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

If anyone did want a better sized Venture pic that the £25 deal they do (is it 7x5''?), try a Boots gift experience. They cost £40 and you get an 8''x10'' framed piccy. We did this a couple of years ago (ended up buying 3 more pics the same size costing £110 each and reframed ourselves!!). We have another to use before December and plan to only have the photo included and not spend any more :money: . We wanted one with the new baby on. Hopefully we can resist buying more better than we did last time. We originally signed up for one large photo which was about £400ish and then changed to smaller ones! The photos are lovely and always make me smile when I look at them!

I also had pics taken by Pixiephoto (someone was asking higher up the thread) (in Boots) when DS was tiny. To be honest I had a job finding any pictues to buy from the ones taken. They are a bit cheesy - kids dressed up (not my thing but I know plenty of people do like it) and sitting in plant pots etc. I wouldn't let them dress DD up, but they like to take a minimum amount so there were a certain amount of props used. I bought the headshot and a couple of her sitting in different baskets!!!!! I love the photos because they are DD (obviously), but wouldn't use them again. Venture's style is much nicer, but their price isn't!!!!!

ah yes, my friend had them done in mothercare and her photos are of her baby in a basket, waering a beret and holding a paint pallette etc. they're not my kind of thing but one of the shots was of the face close up and her baby looked like an angel, it just captured the sweep of his long eyelashes.

i'm in staffordshire but we travelled to shropshire (telford) for our photos with andre images http://www.andreimages.co.uk/index.html
