    Juicy Tube

My OH is photographer who specialises in 'different' photography. However he only works in certain areas of the country. TBH, you would be better using a smaller company, it's cheaper and you can tailor everything to suit your needs. These companies are good at what they do but I cant believe their prices!!! Local photographers are just as good!

If it helps at all please feel free to PM me and if he cant help you, then he'll know someone who can!

it is very different to get pics of children enjoying themselves rather than sitting still smiling falsely at the camera though. everyone comments on my pic of hooby on his brother's shoulders and it's my favourite photo ever :D

but if we had been disciplined we could have just taken that as a freebie.

I've just got the index prints back from my wee boy's photo session at nursery. They are Venture style, and really lovely. We get 5 prints, in 3 sizes and up to three different shots, all in mounts, for £22.50. That's a total bargain.

A collection of one 10'' x 8'' and four little photos, all mounted and in a lovely frame, costs £40.

Depends which one you go to as to how good the photographs are. The one where I live is very good but a friend had them done in Leeds I think it was and she was unhappy with them.
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

we've been twice to them in Glasgow. Photos are great, but don't be sucked in by the whole 'experience' when you go to view (the music, the wine, the huge projected pictures of your loved ones). We asked to buy the prints only (no frames) which they weren't too happy about, but we got the photos we wanted for much less than they try to sell you them at.
However, have also had them done in Debenhams - you can buy a voucher (about £50?) which gives you 4 sittings over the course of a year and includes a free photo each time. Plus can but whole set of all photos they've taken for price of one from venture.

I used to work at a Venture, booking appointments over the telephone. We would get lists of people who'd filled in the form at a shopping centre then tell them they'd been "selected" for a free session (lucky them!).

The photographers who worked there were all young and talented though the sales tactics are a bit full on. You really would need a lot of will power to spend two hours taking the photos then another hour looking at them and walk away without buying anything; it's a bit like taking a 'free' holiday with a timeshare company.

Quote Kathfisch: I've just graduated in photography and I'm shocked at the prices they're charging!! where's my nearest and are they recruiting?!

It's not the photographers getting the money ;)

As an aside, is there any way of buying the smallest photo and then getting it blown up?

I'd never heard of venture until this thread, however, today they were in our local shopping centre, and were offering the whole "experience" plus a FREE!!!! 5 x 7" reprint for £25. Imagine it would be difficult not to buy more though.
Our school are using http://www.pret-a-portrait.co.uk/ next week, which look good, but cost a little less I think than Venture.

We had a Venture-style session a few months ago (free with a voucher from a lady in a shopping centre ;)), and got a freebie small framed photo. TBH the photos weren't that excellent - I mean, we managed not to buy anything - ones of DS were good, but we just couldn't justify paying £100s for a single pic!!!

The freebie photo we got was quite nice, and will get scanned for more freebie pressies for grandparents - how MSE is that! ;)

When we lived in the south of England, in a reasonably well-off area, virtually everyone we knew had Venture/similar photos done of their families. In the end, I couldn't help thinking that although initially these appeared "different", in 20 years' time we'll all be looking back, thinking, "Oh remember those funny photos with the white background everyone had to have done in 2006!" :rotfl:
