New house anti social behaviour

We bought a new house 6 months ago. Bent over backwards to get it and stretched ourselves. It's in the middle of a nice village opposite a library. First 4 months no problem, happy as larry. Last 2 months had endless problems with youths hanging around in the library drinking and taking drugs right in front of our eyes. First few occasions we left them to it not knowing what to do and it went on into the early hours. Started to report it to the police, the youths still turn up, but police move them on. Beginning to regret moving in....unless this is sorted quick. The police are doing their bit, but don't seem to be able to solve it longer term, they just move them on to another location. Anyone else experienced this? Until you do you don't appreciate how sh*t it makes you feel

Are they causing a noise-nuisance or threatening anyone? The trouble is, in a smallish village there's often nothing much for the local youths to go to or do, especially if they're too young for the local pub. Perhaps there might be some mileage in concreting a community-spirit and investigating somewhere for the young people to go and do something more constructive. Have you had a chat with any of your neighbours about this?
I daresay the problem may solve itself once the cold weather arrives, as standing outside drinking cans of beer and smoking reefers with be a heck of a lot less attractive then.0 -
Maybe the local paper could help? Trouble is, it's then documented if you want to sell in the future. If your road name's mentioned, or the library, someone googling it in the future might find it. If it resolves it, great. Make sure that's documented too.
Or maybe seeing if, rather than wait for your call, the local police would drive round a few times each night? If they know where the problem areas are, maybe it would be better for them in the long run if they showed more of a presence.
Wouldn't want it outside my house either - it has a habit of developing into worse situations (I had a similar thing at my last house and would call the police every time the local yobs decided to gather on the corner. Bearable until they get bored of that and start damaging things in the street - including people's cars and properties).
Good luck!

Could you put up a floodlight/security light that's activated by them turning up .... they won't want to be sitting in a brightly lit area.
Also, if you've got a bloke handy - if he can pop over there after the library's shut and before they turn up and wee everywhere.0 -

And?
They'll find there's nowt very interesting to do when they're older so should learn to find quiet hobbies that they can do in their parents homes.
The street is NOT a playpen for teenagers.
If their parents do not want them hanging about at home in large groups then they shouldn't be doing it anywhere!
OP: Keep reporting the nuisance. Ask if there's a homewatch you can join and attend regularly.
One of our local PCSOs uses a marker pen to label drinks cans (soft drinks - the hard stuff gets tipped out) so she can identify which one is dropping litter.0 -

Are you serious? And what would you suggest for them to do that is constructive? Maybe build a big brick wall somewhere so they can graffiti it? Or build a skate park or youth club for them? Or maybe they could help elderly residents with their shopping and house work?
People like you are not living in the real world. Youngsters like this are not hanging around drinking and taking drugs because they are bored with nothing to do and society has failed them, it's because they are idiots who WANT to drink and take drugs rather than doing something else within the law that is constructive.
I'm sorry for the OP for the situation there is nothing really I can suggest, although I do understand how it feels in my previous house we had all sorts of problems with idiots like these and it's a living nightmare. It's just a shame the police don't have more power to deal with it.Debt Is Slavery.0 -
Anti social behaviour by bored youths has decreased considerably in our village since the local Youth Club took off with a vengeance. So i dont feel it was such a stupid suggestion.
Are the library authorities aware of what is happening on their territory? We installed security gates at the village library that I work in because of nuisance after-hours behaviour. Also security lighting.
Is there a local PCSO who could wander round there at regular intervals making it part of his beat?Ellie

Mmmmmthe Mini-Mosquito is still very much an effective tool for dispersing groups of teenagers who regularly congregate in a location and behave in an antisocial manner.Kids only setting emits sound that only under 25’s usually hear.
Is this for real or a elaborate scam?PayPal @ £269.29
The website looks genuine and a real address is quoted but do these things actually work?0 -

Yeah it's real. It's been on the news some time ago. They had one outside a shop to stop the yobs loitering outside but it turned out no one in their 20s with reasonable hearing would go near it so they took it down!Debt Is Slavery.0 -
