Hi wmf and all meno ladies!
wmf..............turmeric gets a great press for all kinds of health benefits, so keep going on it! You know how I love my veggie soups. I use it to make a lovely spicy parsnip soup. My DD (23) would like a juicer for her birthday! I am looking forward to having a play with it too. She already eats lots of fruit, but wants particularly to try juicing veg.
All well here. The occasional modest warm glows of the last few months have subsided without me noticing until the other day, when I suddenly thought, ooohh haven't had one of them for a while. So back to pretty much symptom-less meno here and yes, I do realise I am VERY fortunate (for the moment at least!)
Am stressing slightly about periods though. Last year, after 3 months gap, I went on holiday and the day I arrived started with a horrendously heavy period which was really difficult to manage. Fortunately it was a fairly lazy holiday in a decent size hotel, with loos at every corner and I just about managed but it was very tricky to cope. My last period was in February. I have been willing one to start just to get it out of the way, but no! This is the longest I've gone without one (4 months) and I'm going on holiday next month and facilities this time are going to be more basic and I'm in mixed company so if I have a repeat of last year I'll be stuffed! Will be making sure I pack the extra-super-dooper-mega-massive Lilets (or whatever they're called it's been that long since I bought them I've forgotten!) and pads just in case!
I've managed to lose a stone, since Feb. It's been really difficult to lose, but the midriff feels much better for it! Not to be too virtuous, as it's just the stone I piled on over the winter and I'm almost back where I was this time last year! I really need to vow to stabilise now. I hate that big wodge that piles on round the middle and it's so pointless to go through this stupid ritual of put it on/take it off every year. One day, I will be grown-up enough to be sensible about it

Hello fellow meno ladies!
I have been reading the comments regarding the menopause. I may have been lucky so far but I have not really suffered with any symptoms apart from occasional insomnia which I can cope with. Periods stopped in May 2010 and I have not had any since............so I guess that is it. Have gained some weight which I am working on losing but otherwise, I am feeling great. Because of this, I have opted not to have any HRT - after 40 odd years of periods I am frankly glad to see the back of them!
My Mum did tell me she had breezed through the menopause - maybe genetics have an influencing factor.0 -

I wonder so too. Didn't really get into such discussions with my mum at the time (just as I sense my DD doesn't particularly want to discuss now LOL!), although I recall she was in her early fifties and didn't have too many problems, although she had other health issues that maybe took precedence. Anyhow, she's not here to ask now, sadly :-(0 -
Hiya Ladies,
Genetics are supposed to play a part - I'm bucking the family trend by my extreme symptoms, now helped by hrt. Which seems to have given me thrush. Itchy or what! Had one of those very public chats with pharmacist y'day (god I hate that) & have been given god ol' canestan. Seems to be helping.
Middle way, wmf with the food. I do little and often with everything. Even today those few mouthfuls of delicious broad beans y'day are making their presence felt. A whole portion would be explosive.
Hi Mums Taxi - enjoy your breezing m'pause. Very good to have you join us.
Bronnie, well done losing the podge. That period thing must be a little alarming as it's so unpredictable.
Seeing yet another physio about my never ending painful neck and back. This one does acupuncture - all NHS. Insomnia still difficult. I think I don't get physically tired enough. Tricky with back pain and simply not blessed with a strong body and stamina to do lots of exercise.
Been crotcheting thick woolly socks. I don't follow patterns (self taught) so am making up my own 'design' basically no curves. My OH creases up when he sees my creations. What he doesn't know is he's getting a pair. In pink!"Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0 -
Bronnie, i have had that awful period thing going on while on holiday, now i tend to get norithesterone off the DR before i go, which holds it off until i come home. Would you consider doing that?0

Having read this thread (or most of it) I can now conclude:
I-am-not-going-mad-I'm-going-menopausal! (Almost sounds like a holiday destination put like that)

Been health challenged (some of it my own fault) in the last couple of weeks - so having to rest & recover now!

Thanks. I've read a little about it previously, but presumed you needed to know dates to expect your period as to when to start taking it.............I've lost track of that really.
This excerpt is from NHS Choices
See your GP. They may be able to prescribe medication called norethisterone to delay your period. Your GP will advise you when to take norethisterone and for how long.
Usually, you take three norethisterone tablets a day, starting three days before you expect your period to begin. Your period should arrive two to three days after stopping the medication.
Important: norethisterone is not a contraceptive and it may not be suitable if you have a history of thrombosis (blood clots in the veins).
Also I have quite bad varicose veins in one leg and was advised to wear flight socks to avoid DVT, so don't know whether I'd be able to take it anyway. Am also a bit iffy about taking stuff.
I'm sure it won't happen....it would have to be very bad luck to have that happen again this year, especially with a 4 month no-period gap. ***Crosses fingers, toes and legs!!***0 -
Lovely to hear from you all and hello to MumsTaxi and 3v3.
Funnily enough I have welcomed the return of periods even though heavy at times and tiring - I am saying hello friends, whew at least the cotton wool brain and also insomnia, itchy legs and goodness knows what all else have left me alone for the time being. But one thing I know about this meno journey is that it never stays the same. Just when I think ah this too and get used to something, then another thing pops up.
Sun is out today and it has been lovely. We sat on a park bench and ate our sandwiches! Yes, this is an amazing thing. We haven't had a dry day for ages. Even today there was quite a heavy shower but luckily we were inside (in the pub hehehe).
Hoping for cool nights for you all.
