  • Great find guys!

Just opened and found it  was easy enough! Also got asked to send proof of address but deffo worth it!

  • "....Our research suggests that people in the UK that have lump sums to invest love the idea of Iceland. They think of Magnus Magnusson and very warm, generous people..."

Sorry guys, it's the rate and the guarantee ;).
Speak for yourself! No mention of old geysers? :rotfl:
  • I'm very impressed that this account has be "Forged by Fire, honed by Ice"

However reading the press release, the guy in charge of the account says he is confident that the 15 staff they have in the call centre in Newcastle can cope with demand.

I'm not sure that if they do any sort of mass marketing they will be able to cope. Feels like there is a good chance that their operations will fall over if any sort of volume of applications start to arrive.

I don`t think many people will need to use the call centre as early indications are that this is a very easy-to-operate account. Very good so far and I will be posting the cheques for both of us today

Grr. Completed application form, and they *still* require proof of both residency and Identity. At least ICICI didn't need them :/
    Are you sure?
Quite sure. All the proof ICICI required was satisfied with what I provided on the application and the cheque I subsequently posted. They did not require anything else.

I also applied today and at the end of my application was also asked for proof of residency and proof of identity which is not a problem.

I rang their number just to test them also very impressive as I was not on hold very long perhaps only few seconds then the young lady that I spoke asked me where did I hear icesave and I can't lie, can I? https://www.moneysavingexpert.com

If they only have 15 staff on their call center very impressed as they probably already swarmed with phone calls today.

I just hope they don't move their call centres overseas.

Interestingly, their application form is very similar to Newcastle Building Society's online one (including the option of supplying passport/driving licence details to help confirm ID) and Icesave appear to have based their UK operation in Newcastle.. wonder if there is a connection :)

Hmm - when I wrote this I was half joking.

Now I am more convinced there is some kind of connection...

Apart from a very similar application form, my IceSave direct debit has now appeared in my current account.

The reference number is in the format: INV DD 000xxxxxx which is identical to the format used by Newcastle Building Society and the xxxxxx is only 4/5 thousand (approx) away from a direct debit I set up with Newcastle last month...

Stuster you we're right it needs to be paid away and one of my nominated account is my link account which is A&L so no problems there.

I confused it say 5.08% if interest is paid monthly or 5.2% if paid annually, so for a month interest payment its not so good, or am I reading wrong?
