The only problem I had was with the passport section. It is not just the passport number that is required, but the 30 (rough count) reference along the bottom!!! Not entirely happy about parting with my passport number, but the site purports to be secure (padlock, https etc.)

Supplying the passport number and/or driving licence details is optional - I did not bother supplying any and have not been asked for any further information.

Interestingly, their application form is very similar to Newcastle Building Society's online one (including the option of supplying passport/driving licence details to help confirm ID) and Icesave appear to have based their UK operation in Newcastle.. wonder if there is a connection :)

    Regards
    Sunil

Probably because it is one of the nearest places in England to Iceland, and the weather conditions are similar! ;)

  • What can you say about this site?

The account has been running for hours, it's not yet in the national press, and yet it has already been forensically gutted by an army of professional savers.

    Great work :).

Makes it easier for Martin, too ;)

And any early admin glitches will self-evidently appear here first.

At the risk of sounding stupid, (OK it's never bothered me before), is 5.2% such a big deal? Recently Alliance & Leicester were paying 5.4% and ICICI have been offering 5.15% since before the rates last went up. Am I the only person who was expecting something a little better? I assume the most attractive part of the deal is the rate guarantee for the next few years?

Interesting timing...there is a very high probability that the BoE MPC will increase the BBR by 25 points the next time they meet on the 9th November. That will make the BBR 5.00% and may force other Best Buys to finally make a move.

The Big Question will be: will they increase their rates 1 month after launch?

I think it's a Good offer but may not be a Great offer...though I'll sign up just in case!
