  • Is it just the rate guarantee which makes the Icesave more attractive?
How do you mean just the rate guarantee? ;)

The Group behind this product includes Heritable Bank, which has offered some very competitive products in the recent past. If you read the press release and the bumf on the IceSave and Landsbanki web pages they seem to have set their stall out to enter the UK market and provide competitive products. OK a pinch of salt may be required, but it seems a much more professional outfit than some others (mentioning no names, ICICI).

I had just opened an ICICI account but they have been quite slow in progressing, so IceSave have come along at the perfect time to capture my business.

This is why I love this site!

I'll keep an eye on this new player on the market. Actually I might give them a ring tomorrow to clarify if you opted your interest paid monthly will it be paid away to your link current account or added to your savings account?
in which the latter suits best for me.

I thought it had to be paid away. However it does not have to paid away to the link account - you can nominate any account (with a sort code and account number). Something else occurs - you can have up to three linked DD-able accounts, like with ING.

If it has to be paid away then you loss the benefit of compounding interest.

Surely not if you pay it away to another decent interest-bearing account.

I'm getting 5.1 from YBS Internet saver (just transferred from ING). I guess another account won't do any harm :D

I just hope they are not expecting too many telephone calls - as according to the Telegraph their call centre only has 15 staff.

  • Interesting. They should get tested out today.

I just love this quote from Sunil's link:

"....Our research suggests that people in the UK that have lump sums to invest love the idea of Iceland. They think of Magnus Magnusson and very warm, generous people..."

Sorry guys, it's the rate and the guarantee ;).
