  • I've just opened an account and need to send ID. I believe it it originals they want and not photocopies? and that everything will be returned asap once they are satisfied? Can anyone tell me - thanks.
  • Doh! Ignore my question, I've re read the information and have answered my own query. More haste , less speed I think!
  • The discussion regarding the sort code is only relevant to the probable piggy-backing of the back-office operation, because, as referred to in a previous post, apparently the only transaction you can 'push' into this account electronically is the initial one. According to the accompanying handbook

    'We cannot accept other forms of deposit after your initial deposit' i.e. other than 'pulling' via the direct debit arrangement you will have set up. That would also seem to preclude cheques.

    Something else that I have only just noticed is that 'the minimum additional deposit is £100.'

    HTH.

    I opened an account with no difficulty. I did put in the passport details but not the driving license and got asked for proof of address - not a problem as it is a freepost.
    The only odd thing was that I could not print out the final page that they suggest you print. Neither the "print" button that they supplied nor the browser's print facility would work. I am using IE7 Beta . Anyone else have this problem?

    This is very poor design:

    Memorable place: (8-12 characters with no gaps)
    Memorable name: (8-12 characters with no gaps)

    So it has to be memorable, but not have any spaces, and within a very small range. So London is too short. Kuala Lumpur is too long, and in any case has a space in it. Same with names.

    So the end result is you make something up that isn't memorable at all, and then have to write it down or store it on your PC, completely defeating the point.

    And the passwords have a tiny range 8 - 10 characters, and must include a number. So that won't be anything you can remember either.

    Looks like they need to learn a bit more about effective security.
    My policies are based not on some economics theory, but on things I and millions like me were brought up with: an honest day's work for an honest day's pay; live within your means; put by a nest egg for a rainy day; pay your bills on time; support the police - Margaret Thatcher.

    :huh: Filled all the details in - but no security number popped up for me to re-type in. So pressed continue (site said absence of number would slow down application) - got blank screen. Had to abort.

    Ah well, perhaps they don't want my money.

    I agree, my birthplace was too short, my usual memorable address was to long so in the end I made something up which I have already forgotten :rolleyes:

    Could you not intersperse a memorable number into your memorable place/name? A couple of digits placed between the letters would give you something that is still quite memorable.

    You can always use so called leet speak where you replace letters with numbers i.e.
    e=3
    a=4
    l=1
    s=5
    o=0
    t=7
    thus password=p455w0rd
    leet=1337
