Anti road rage.
As an antidote to the road rage thread. Does anyone have anything that other drivers do that makes them smile and makes the long journies seem so much nicer?
For me there's the different signals that lorry drivers use when thanking you for leting them in.
Left-right-left-right, left-right-right-left,
The drivers who thank you when you let them out
The drivers coming the other way on a single carriageway who see that there's a cyclist on your side and pull over a bit so you can overtake easily.
The family who pulled over when I'd broken down on the M1, made sure I was ok, then once my car was started again followed me to make sure I got off at my exit safely

Seeing a boy racer type car broken down in the hard shoulder usually makes my day.
Beating the lollipop lady across the road before she can jam her stick in front of me causing a mass pile up. She's 3-2 up this week.0 -
I'm a great believer in paying it forward, so if I can see there's a queue up ahead of me I'll let a driver out of a side road if he's going in the opposite direction, hopefully the goodwill will be passed on to someone else and hopefully back to me by the end of the day
.
I like lorry drivers who pull out into the lane that's about to close ( for roadworks) and stop the BMW drivers heading straight for the front of the queue when the lane ending signs have been up for the past three miles.;)
I like people who press and use the pedestrian crossing on the road next to our local Sainsbury's, simply because it holds up the traffic long enough to clear the side road of drivers who are waiting to join the road - normally they screech out on a wing and a prayer into the busy 40mph dual carriageway.
I like people who sit the correct distance behind me, and who leave a bit of extra room when it's icy or snowy on the road, makes me feel much safer that they won't rear end me if I need to stop for any reason.
I like people who see another car rear ending someone and pull over to offer their details as a witness rather than driving on ( I'm only saying this because I did exactly that the other day, the offending driver didn't look like she was going to admit to anything despite driving right into the back of the bloke at a roundabout:p)
I like people who slow down in my street because it's a 20mph zone during school entry/exit times.
I like pedestrians who are standing talking to a friend but still notice and move away from the edge of the pavement to let drivers see along the road they are pulling into.
I like people who slow down for cats crossing the road.:D
I like people who cut the gas when they see little kids riding their bikes on pavements ( I don't like their parents who let them ride off into the distance and can't save them if they swerve into the road)
I like caravanners and tractor drivers who pull into lay-bys to let the traffic past on country roads.
I like people who use their indicators properly on roundabouts, it helps other users enormously.
I like young people who drive well and keep their cars lovely and shiny - it's nice to remember the thrill of having that first car, of being allowed to drive around with no instructors, and caring enough to shine up the bumpers of a beat up old wreck.:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

The lorry driver who let me join the heavy traffic on the heavily-roadworked A80 yesterday - you're awesome :T:T :rotfl:0

Just general courtesy from others and awareness of what's going on around them. For example a car was parked opposite a bus stop on my side of the road. Two people stood waiting at the bus stop and a bus turns into the road.Instead of immediately blocking the road and picking them up as he could have done, the driver signalled me to come onto his side of the road and let me past.A couple of seconds wait for him saved me maybe a minute and meant I didn't have to stop.0

Anyone who behaves the same behind the wheel as they would walking down the street!
By that I mean, being in a car doesn't make you superman & able to threaten/intimidate everyone you think has "wronged" you.
99% of road ragers wouldn't have the bottle to do it if a pedestrian cut them up on the pavement when they were walking.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Agree with all points of your except this one. It just makes the queue double the length. Why not queue in both lanes and merge in turn, like you are supposed to?0 -

What a great post:T:T:T:T
You are lovely:):):):)
On my way to work there is a bottle neck I get stuck in, between a roundabout & a set of lights. On this bottle neck is a side road from a housing estate. There is always a queue of people waiting to get out, they nearly all are going the other way to the queueing traffic (me). So I stop before the road & let loads out & on their way, instead of blocking them in while queueing for the next light change. I can't go anywhere, the traffic behind me can't go anyway (except a few yards forward) & the amount of people who blast their horns because I let them out instead of driving bumper to the next car & blocking them in never ceases to amaze me:(
I use a country road to slip up to an M25 junction if I'm working away. At the end of the country road is a main road leaving to an
M25 junction to the right & a town to the left. They are queued coming down this road from the M25 to the town & yet its rare anyone will let you out:( There is a central waiting point & a yellow no entry box. The other day there was a space coming down as they don't fill the box, but the central waiting point was full, so I waited, as the central point emptied I went to go & a van driver coming down started bipping & effing & blinding at me because suddenly one car space became available in the queue going downhill the far side of the yellow box. I braked & let him queue, obviously getting 20 foot more in his traffic queue was very important to him & he was happy to see me blocked in when I was going to opposite way:mad:0 -

with one queue, at least your all moving slowly.
These drivers who use the blocked off lane until the last second don't merge in, they force their way in.0 -
Well boyse7en, If you are not the BMW driver, you must be the white van driver or the smug rep'. Why should I sit in a queue of say 50 cars and then wait for 50 more of the loveable above to pass me so that I can "merge as we are supposed to". I support the truck driver who, incidentally, is on a tachograph and not out on a Sunday jaunt on the wrong day. It used to happen a lot until Robocop decided implement a rarely used law. They also used to clear the Queens highway asap, now they shut down the road and have a conference. I go back a long way - to the days when you were taught to drive, not just pass your test. Give and take - and smile0
