There is nowhere else the goods could have been purchased

But they could have been stolen

Own brand means nothing......millions of pounds worth of goods are stolen each year.........with no receipts

And so no shop keeper in their right mind is going to give you CASH back for something they cannot be sure that you purchased from them in the first place......law or not!

They do have insurance for stolen goods.
Work like you don't need money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like no one's watching

No they dont........I have insurance for all my shops, but there is an excess of £5000 and that only kicks in with major break in's etc

You the consumer pays for all stolen goods by way of a higher margin to cover the 0.75% of stock stolen

They probably just add it all up at the end of the year and do a big claim :rotfl:

I really do appreciate what you are saying. I have been working in retail for 18years and have been a store manager for the past 7years.

Unfortunately unless you can prove the goods are stolen then its irrelevant - surely you must agree on that? ITs not about whether the store manager is in their 'right mind' - its about doing what has to be done. I try extremely hard to ensure I dont give refunds without receipts - sometimes it just has to be done! Anyway, some customers are genuine and are fully entitled to a refund. :)

The other thing is, is that shoplifters, unfortunately, seem to always know their rights  which is why they tend to steal, then damage, & then insist on a refund - stealing from one branch & returning to another usually.

'law or not' - well, do you risk going against statutory rights of a customer to a genuine customer who then involves trading standards or do you give a refund as you should? Just wondering what you'd do? If this is your own business & you sell goods that are widely available then that is maybe why you are not aware of this & are obviously within your rights to offer a cash refund.
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

    I've been Money Tipped!
Sorry to but in again but i'm a manager for JJB (12 Years) and if it's faulty we still dont give refunds without a receipt as we do a lot of brands that can be bought elsewhere, you have to prove that you bought it from us! although we do have a good customer service, and usually are lienient with exchanging without a reciept!
