Sportsworld - Are They Breaking The Law?

Thanks for the advice Dudes.
Looks like I was talking nonsense in the shop..........
I honestly thought that if something did not fit, then a refund was on the cards - as opposed to not liking the item.
You live and learn.
Take her easy,

Next time try it on before you leave the store0

For your information
Shops are not allowed to display a sign stating "No Refunds". However if this is followed by "Subject to your statutory rights" then that is OK. Your statutory rights include such things as fit for the purpose it was sold for, faulty goods. It does not cover "I bought the wrong size"
Just as a footnote......some shops do display a sign stating something along the lines of "exchanges with original receipt"
It is not necessary to produce a receipt to prove your purchase. This is because the shop is not obliged (by law) to issue you with a receipt. This stems back to market traders. Think about it…..if you purchase fruit and veg from the market, you will not get a receipt.
However shops will argue black and white that you MUST produce a receipt to prove your purchase0 -
I should point out, I've never seen a SportsWorld that has got a changing room.0

i am in a quandary now. OH bought trainers from there about 6wks ago, paid cash and can't find the reciept. He only worn them for his hols ( tradition new trainers for holidays) and the sole is coming off now.
They have not been good value but I have no proof, I was going to go into the shop but I imagine i will be sent away with a flea in my ear for lack of proof. Maybe I should write a letter of complaint.0 -
tee pee.....thats what I was saying....you don't have to produce a receipt.
And your contract is with them, so they are obliged to sort it while you wait. You do not have to accept some spotty nosed jobs worth telling you that they will have to send them away.....STAND YOUR GROUND!0 -

Thats a toughie.
If sportsworld is the only shop that sells those trainers then its not a prob.
Its actually your responsibility to prove you bought them from that store. They may respond with 'well, you could have bought them from anywhere'.
Its still worth a try though - especially if you only want an exchange. There is definately no harm in trying.
6 week old trainers with occasional wear and the sole coming off definately means the shoes should be exchanged. You are actually entitled to a refund without a receipt if goods are faulty. Its just the fact that the trainers are probably available in lots of stores that makes this more difficult. Shame you didn' tpay by debit card - a bank statement would have been fine as proof of purchase.
Good luck!Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

I like you
I really admire people who aren't afraid to admit they were wrong and then move on.

You are wrong here, they are entitled to ask the buyer for proof of purchace wether it be a receipt or a bank statement etc.0
