Sportsworld - Are They Breaking The Law?

I had the same problem with Sportsworld when I bought my son a jacket that didn't fit. They didn't have it in a larger size and wouldn't give a refund. I certainly don't shop there as much now as I just wouldn't take the chance.
The shoe shop Office have the same policy, luckily I checked before buying shoes for my son. Now I shop elsewhere for him.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -

The Argos that I use takes goods back without a receipt. I've done this a couple of times in the past.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -

All the sportsworlds i've been to have always had 3 or 4 changing rooms free to use, i think the shop is great for cheap stuff for the gym, personally if i only get 6 weeks wear out of a pair of £2.49 joggers i wont lose no sleep! At those prices you could afford to just throw them away after use!Wins 2016: Dogfest ticks, B&M dog Hamper, Dog food, Dog blanket, Hair product, meal for 2 and wine at pub, craft bundle, organic surge gift pack, £100 gullivers world voucher, stress out cd, £200 seascape vouchers, popcorn maker, mandarin body butter, Wishing for a holiday win!0

I had this problem during the summer.
I bought several tops and bottoms or varing size (lets pretend 10's and 12's shall we ? ) and made the comment at the till as I paid to explain why I was buying duplicates, that I didn't know which exact size I would need - as we all know, sizes can vary ENORMOUSLY.
I didn't have time to find the changing room, strip off, try them all on, and re-dress etc, as I had to pick up kids from school.
A week later I returned WITH receipt, and returning items in pristine condition and tags still attached, and was refused a refund, and had to accept a credit note......which is still sat festering in my purse. It is literally a piece of paper no different to a receipt, so will probably be faded and tatty by the time I do get tround to using it.
Unless I am VERY careful there is a dstrong chance I will lose the thing, or it be un-usable, presumably this is one way they make a bit of extra profit.
I have learnt my lesson - if I haven't got time to try it on, I haven't got time to argue about it whne I take it back.
Problem is how to go on when you are shopping for kids/someone else who is not there.I often have to buy clothing for mine while they are at school, and return what doesn't fit.
Another store who don't do refunds is Mark One - don't know if this is a national chain.
I had a similar experience a few yrs ago, and have never been back in the store since. Trouble is I am so used to store like M&S etc who DO do straight refunds, that I automatically assume they all do, until I LEARN by experience otherwise.:cool:0 -
My local Mark One store has always given refunds with the receipt or a credit note if you don't hve the receipt.0

Hi there,
I work for JJB and our policy is to only give refunds with a reciept, even if it's faulty without a receipt we will only exchange! also we have been told we dont legally have to give a refund if it's just the wrong size etc but to do so for good customer service! ( as long as original condition and within 28 days) we are usually quite easy going with all refunds and exchanges and definalty give better service than Sports world!
We have recently been told not to exchange replica shirts without a reciept (unless it's just a size exchange) as we have had a big problem with them being stolen and brought back!Best Threads -

I rest my case :T This is the policy amongst most high street shops. If you've managed to get a refund without a receipt, I would say that you've been very lucky

It may be the shops policy but as I've said previously it is your right to have a cash refund for a faulty product without your reciept as long as you can prove the item was purchased from that store - so it would have to be branded to that store - like 'next' for example or 'm&s'. There is nowhere else the goods could have been purchased and the store will have a rough idea of when the goods were purchased.
I'm certain that most store managers know this but just dont pass it down to the staff so that they do not give cash refunds. It would only be when a customer kicks up a stink that a manager would step in and know that a cash refund would have to be given if necessary. It is, after all, a statutory right.
I'm sure if you have a look on a trading standards/consumer rights website it would confirm that this is the case.
so I dont think your case is rested just yetSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0
