lovelife - it can often be quite difficult to store flour products in kitchens because of all the condensation from cooking and steam. We now try and keep all our flour products tightly sealed in plastic bags or boxes to prevent the damp getting to them.

My bags of flour are in the box they were delivered in and sat in their polythene bags. So far, so good.:T

If you can find a sweetshop with sweets in jars, they will often sell the empty jars for a very small amount and they are perfect for storing flour and sugar, pasta, porridge oats etc (my storeroom is in the cellar which is damp). If not, then Poundland have cereal dispensers for £1 which hold 1.5 kg of sugar or flour. But the sweetie jars are better because they are more economical of space on the shelf and the lids fit better
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

I agree totally! our old dog had flees for the first time this year and they were bug*ers to get rid of - we tried everthing and the only thing that worked was Frontline and as you said it's not expensive when you work out what it cost trying lots of other things.
I tried teatree, and brewers yeast as well as all sorts of sprays and shampoos and cheaper one spot type of stuff.

I must admit, I will continue to use it, but keep all the other remedies in mind to use to deter the little biters.
I dont use it as often as it states too. Twice a year is tops, and still none this year :) Thank goodness, I hate them and when they bite me I get huge, white, itchy lumps:(

I find it sad how many women are catty and nasty. Life is too bloody short for that sillyness. Besides being a waste of time and breath!
  • Thanks for the suggestions about places to dry my washing. Can't really put a line up in the extension, if it was just the washer in there we probably could but the fridge freezer is in there too, it's so tiny that the fridge freezer wont fit with it's back to the wall and the doors still be able to open! It's sideways and we have to maneuver round it to get to the washing machine! It's a good job we're both reasonably slim because I'm not sure some people could fit through the little gap that's there  I'm not suprised that a lot of the other houses on the street have converted the back to have a kitchen diner but as we rent we're stuck with the 60s galley kitchen not made for modern appliance sizes and mini extension out the back for the fridge freezer/washing machine/bin and storage of our ironing board and hoover (we don't have a cupboard under the stairs either) I'm not sure about a retractable washing line, again as we rent we'd have to fit it and I don't know how happy the landlord would be! I do have some of those little peg things that can hang off the shower curtain pole for our undies.

Sooooo PAYDAY! It's payday for me and DH today and it was a massive relief. I can finally stock up the freezer a bit and pick up some bits and pieces we need. DH needs new glasses but is going to wait until next payday, we've been discussing whether or not I need a new winter coat, DH says yes but I say I'll make do with the tatty old one I've had for the last 8 years, it'll do! It's not the smartest but it's not falling apart just yet.

Could you get a dolly maid ABOVE the washer and freezer? All that lovely heat coming off the condenser.

On a brighter note, just had some good news, DH might have a new job in the new year, a bit less money but loads more job security. Was getting a bit sick of the accountant handing out their pay-slips with the warning "it's lucky you all got paid this month, next month might not be so lucky, make the most of it"
Joke or not, it's just not funny, makes me angry just thinking about it :mad::mad::mad::mad:

So hopefully he can give his notice at the end of November off for 10 days over Xmas until 4th Jan & start the 6 weeks training for his new job - well that's the plan :o

Great news about the job, bet he can't wait, especially with the 'accountant' twittish comments.
Surely, the accountant must realise that in hard times companies decide to forgo expensive accountants and get a cheaper accounts clerk.
The higher up you are, it's easier it is to wobble off the top.
