I also injured my coccyx a few years ago cycling over a pothole. At first it hurt but not unbearably so I carried on and went into work for the next few days. Sitting on a train and at a desk 12 hours did it no good at all. By day 3 I was having to get someone to pull me up out of my chair each time I stood up because it hurt too much though I was ok-ish once I was standing. Ended up having to go the GP who told me I had probably cracked it but no point xraying - if it was cracked it would take 2 months to get better, if it wasn't, it would take less.
He signed me off for a week which is what I needed - sitting for so long had caused much more inflammation. He also prescribed Voltarol which you can now get over the counter but couldn't then. That was good stuff!
What really helped was going to the mobility shop where they sold me a wedge shaped cushion (ie it sloped towards the front of the chair) with a bit cut out at the back so that the injured bit was not resting on anything. It also tipped my weight forward so that I wasn't bearing all my weight directly over my spine when I sat - that may be approved for general purposes but when you have hurt your tail you need to either slouch in a soft armchair or sit on the edge of your chair.
Do get it checked - there may not be anything they can do but knowing how to avoid inflaming it, as I did through struggling on, is importantIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Good Morning everybody.
Thought we had been getting off a bit lightly in my part of Cheshire compared to many on here & my daughter in Derbyshire.
Not any longer! Have woken up this morning to find that it has been so cold overnight that the pipe bringing the cold water into the house has frozen. This happened twice in Jan so know what to do to defrost it but annoying.
Went to hospital appointment on Wednesday & now have a date in January to have an op (trapeziectomy) on my left hand to hopefully sort the arthritis in my thumb.
Feeling positive about having it done but not sure how I will cope for the first 3 weeks as I have to cast on to immobilise my hand.
TR
I had something similar done earlier this year as I have Dupuytrens which causes your fingers to curl into claws. I was in a cast up to my fingertips for the first week and that was difficult because I couldn't get my finger and thumb to meet. If I could have done it would have been easier but even so with a bit of fiddling you can do a fair amount. It's surprising how well you can manage holding something between two fingertips. Let's put it this way my DD was very relieved I was able to dress myself right from the start.
What I did need help for was to press CTRL-ALT-DEL on the computer (I was working from home and my work computer hibernates constantly). And most of my typing was without capitals because I couldn't be bothered to turn on caps lock, type one letter, turn off caps lock etc
If you are having a shower then a black bin liner with a rubber band over it keeps the water out. That worked better than a smaller bag for some reason..
Once the cast came off I could do a lot more but I couldn't drive for a month - my op was on my little finger and the incision was from the knuckle to the mid palm and it was where I would rest my hand on the steering wheel; If you don't have to put pressure on it, you may be able to drive sooner. HTHIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Have had lovely NHS Direct sort me out. I dont need an x ray but do need to take it easy and got lots of advice about pain relief. I do an office job where I sit down all day so Il have to stay off next week. I get full pay so no worries there and havnt been off for 2 years. My second job which involves a lot of standing, Im on annual leave from. Apparantly a fall like that can dislodge a coil if you have one and Il need to get mine checked out!:o
Thanks for all your concerns and advice. Your all like extra Mum's lol.
Didnt realise my intials for my user name is S & M! Typical of me but quite amusing:rotfl:I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
S&M (love it!) if your Primary Care Trust has a physio you can self refer to, it would be worth trying that too, they gave me some fantastic help when I went eventually, and good excercises and stretches to do for sitting etc. (I also sit on my backside all day at work)It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

We've just had word through about the new pay scales for DH. It's a bit of a shock but better than no job I guess. Less money per month, compulsory unpaid leave and other things that we'll have to pay out of pocket now that weren't there before. It could be worse but it's still not fun by a long way.
But at least we've hardly had any snow.0 -
Jackieglasgow - me and you are tough cos us Liverpool and Glasgow girls are dead hard lol
Ive emailed work and let them know Im going to be off. Got to ring them on Monday. Il be on here a lot then. Hope I dont have to pay for after school club. That would save a few bob.
Il get full pay but think that will all change soon (local authority). Lots of changes happening. The big bosses dont seem to know what they are doing. Horrible atmosphere in work these days.I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0 -
Hopefully in a week's time we should find out whether DH will still have a job or not. After many delays they have said that they are finally going to give out the results of the re-org next Friday. DH was supposed to be on holiday but is going to go in for the day as this is fairly important!
He may still be on dodgy ground even if he survives this round, as the government will be getting rid of the section he currently works for - but there was talk of merging it with another department so some of the jobs will survive, we just don't know if he'll be one of them or not.
I need to notify work soon if I'm coming back to stay or not, so I'm really hoping we get a definitive answer either way!0 -
****** according to rain today premium: the next lot of precipitation coming over (and its fast moving and seems to last an hour or so) is rain which is going to turn to ice as soon as it hits the ground. It is coming from the west and will start to hit land at around 3.30 pm so don`t dither re getting home from picking children up. Cardiff at 5 ish and bristol at 5.30 so moving quickly towards the east
Frozen rain is no joke. I got caught in it once and it is really frightening. Much worse than snow0 -
