Now that is just poor drills!! You NEVER run out of vodka. Do you not keep a secret stash, or is that just me??! :D:rotfl:

Well, I was very excited about finding a carpenter to fit my new front door after 9 attempts/quotes. However, it is now official. In this weather, I have found a cowboy carpenter! I have never ever seen such a poor job. To say I was gutted is an understatement. Hysterical in floods of tears more like. It is now secure but needs alot of work and filling to put it right.

Had you thought of reporting him to the Trading Standards people?

Sorry to hear you've had that problem - I think we all encounter at least one cowboy at some point:mad: - as theres so many of them around...:(

Or...as my father would say "Bring back the Technical Colleges - somewhere where people can go and learn some skills" and we certainly do need it - as there doesnt seem to be the level of properly-trained people for jobs on our homes there apparently used to be.

Another six inches of snow overnight, temperature below freezing and freezing fog . . . . another fun day in North Lincolnshire!

Redlady_1 Sorry to hear about the Cowboy Carpenter, its so upsetting when you get a bad job done. There are some great craftsmen out there but how you sort the wheat from the chaff is beyond me. Our kitchen worktops were 'fitted' by a cowboy joiner - he cut them an inch short of the walls leaving a jagged edge all along and then bodged the gap with tiles and sealant. I cried buckets when we saw what he had done as we had saved for years to get them done and couldn't afford to get them redone :(

LOL what a shocking thing to suggest  , although I may have a couple of bottles of gin in a cupboard to just keep them safe :D

I was very glad the Sainsbury's delivery got here on Wednesday before the snow, I'd have been out of tonic! :D

    Bake Off Boss!
    Good Morning everybody.
Thought we had been getting off a bit lightly in my part of Cheshire compared to many on here & my daughter in Derbyshire.
Not any longer! Have woken up this morning to find that it has been so cold overnight that the pipe bringing the cold water into the house has frozen. This happened twice in Jan so know what to do to defrost it but annoying.
Went to hospital appointment on Wednesday & now have a date in January to have an op (trapeziectomy) on my left hand to hopefully sort the arthritis in my thumb.
Feeling positive about having it done but not sure how I will cope for the first 3 weeks as I have to cast on to immobilise my hand.

  • Have arrived at the shop now to find all the windows iced over on the inside. Haven't had that since the freeze up at the beginning of the year.
No central heating in shop so have switched on the 2 fan heaters at max & will hope for the best as windows are very large & single glazed & really don't feel like getting my ice scraper to them.
Hope the bit I heard earlier about it getting worse in the North West isn't true.
Can't start defrosting my pipes until I go home this afternoon as need to take my halogen heater home with me & no one at home to do it for me anyway.
Oh the fun of the British winter!

    Take care everyone.

My double glazed lounge window had ice on it this morning! My curtains were stuck to it!!

Been out and about already this morning, had to walk down to the vet with my kitten, she wasn't happy about it! Put a hot wheat bag in her carrier to keep her warmish though. Luckily my DH's work is shut today so he was around to walk down the road with me.

Called on my elderly neighbour to see if she needs anything - she does drive but we live on a hill and it's not been gritted, so really dangerous. Horrible to walk on, there's about half an inch of solid compacted ice.

Having a hair cut this afternoon - first time since June, I'm such a slob!

Really misty here today, looks pretty but is so cold. The people across the road are moving house today, they've hired a big removal lorry. Nightmare day to move!

Going to put my xmas decorations up tonight, I think. Might even persuade DH to go and get the tree (homebase is just round the corner from us so we can walk there and DH can carry the tree over his shoulder like a real man, lol!)

Right, it's freezing, time to put the heating back on, methinks....
