Frozen rain is no joke. I got caught in it once and it is really frightening. Much worse than snow

I remember one day a couple of decades back when it rained overnight and froze everywhere. I was staying with a friend in Bath (City of hills...) who lived up in the heights of the surrounding area.

First thing I knew about it was when I stepped out of the door and went a*se over tip. You couldn't see the ice, it was a transparent sheet.

Made it all the way down the hill into town without falling over again. Though it did involve sliding on my bum during one of the steeper bits. Scariest times were going down pavements that ended in busy roads! Led to everyone being more sociable though, as people were helping each other across the really slippy areas.

Heard loads of tales of broken limbs after that, so yep, not good stuff!

I am sitting here in floods of tears, major overreaction I know, because I have a burst pipe outside. I had drained the pipe and everything but it has still burst. It just feels like the last straw with this house. I feel I'm constantly chasing up uncooperative workmen and there are so many problems cos I'm cleaning up after cowboys. I talked to a plumber and hopefully he can come tomorrow.

Right time for some deep breaths and pull myself together.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

    :mad::mad::mad: I AM SO ANGRY :mad::mad::mad:

Just been watching the BBC News and some silly woman dialed 999 to the Kent police to report her Snowman being stolen... she was very serious.

Its an outrage.... someone with a real emergency could be trying to get through. What is wrong with people? Makes me hopping mad :mad:

I feel for you sweet. Just a few days before Christmas last year, our boiler gave up the ghost and we had no hot water. We were without it for about 5 days.

The first dude that turned out stuffed it up further.

We managed to get hold of a man who is in charge of this area for the company and there was only one boiler of it's kind to be had (The original was rather old).

He collected it from the supplier and got it sorted, before Christmas.:T

Before he appeared on the scene though, I felt just like you are feeling now.:(

Best of luck in getting the burst pipe sorted. ((((NB))))

Power cut today that upset the router. So cold outside - its horrible. Icicles 3ft long hanging off all the rones, I feel like am living in a wee xmas card cottage :D
Neighbours got out of the village today for the first time since sunday, and the postman came :T
We are ok for now, will just sit tight until monday, because the road was supposed to be horrible 2 miles further up on the moor, with drifting snow blowing off the fields. My daughter had a skid and a fright and she has a 4x4.
Hope yur all cosy and warm at home and staying there :D
