I watched a prog that I recorded from BBC2 called the food that made millions. Well what an eye opener that was, how the big companies have made a fortune by weaning us all away from home made food to cereals ie the first convenience food. They make a profit of 2000% by messing with the cereal and by transforming it to something else, first getting rid of the nutritiously good parts. Then they get sprayed with vitamins to put something back. They got us all on board with all the free gifts they used to enclose ie the submarine, the disc on a string, the monkey that climbed the ladder. Oh I remember them allright and they were good playable toys and they were used to get us used to having boxed cereals every day
I was just so mad watching it and later on will make my own granola as I used to do. I am not buying cereals any more. They even jumped on the muesli bandwagon. Never mind all the salt and sugar they added to everything. It makes you think as most people were much slimmer before the secret sugars were added0 -
Well here in Leic weve plenty of snow. DD at school but I hold a question mark over tommorow as some local Secondarys have sent the children home. DS nursery is going to close early due to the weather. I do worry as my DH nad brother work 40 miles away and have to get to and from work daily.
Im very lucky that we have 2 supermarkets close by and can easily walk to them in wellies if needed
Lamb im thinking of you
Please all keep warm and wellMad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!

True Kittie , I gave up eating them years ago, we stick to porridge. Yet more snow overnight and this morning, really deep and nowhere to put it now. Farmer came down the street with his tractor, complete with two bales on it lol, cleared our cul de sac but dropped straw all over it
Wee orange cat really miserable sitting in his polystyrene box on his wee bit of carpet LOL with his tail all wet.
Our heroic postman got through today but the parcels I'm waiting for didnt come. So I wrapped some crissy pressies and ate some dolly mixtures and am not going out again cos my boots let in and I'm soaked and freezing lol.0 -

(((((Lambanana))))), so sorry it didn't work. You deserve lots of TLC, hope you can be extra-good to yourself pet. Well done on your energy bills. x
Kittie, saw that too - grrrr! I do really like some of them though, I reckon I'm addicted to all the rubbishy salt and sugar. I must get back into porridge, I used to have that every day but lately have been eating the cheap version of rice krispies with hot milk.
BB - I am a big kid too! I went out to sort the birds and build a snowman but the snow didn't stick together, it's very powdery. Might have a go later, there has been quite a bit of the wet and fluffy type of snow today.
Stay cosy everyone!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

DH has told me to treat myself to something nice but of course I don't want to go spending silly money. I did see some proper ski gloves, the really thick waterproof ones, in TK Maxx for £12.99 instead of £30 yesterday and I'm thinking of going and buying a pair. My gloves now have holes in them as they're worn so thin and whilst I'd normally knit new ones I need gloves NOW not when I've had time to knit some! I figured if I treat myself to these they'll really keep my hands warm (I have rubbish circulation and often need 2 pairs of normal gloves) and wont end up soggy and horrible in the snow and cold weather.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

()s lambanana. I'm so sorry it didn't work.
We are a porridge family too. Buy the very occasional box of cereal (ie about one a year!) as a treat but can't be all that much of a treat as they never finish the box and I have to think up some way of baking with whatever it is. Don't buy muesli either although I quite like oats with milk or yoghurt just as they are. Chocolate though is another matter...sigh! You didn't tell us you had a secret stash of dolly mixtures mardatha!Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0 -
White here again, there are still people who think that because the farmers were out earlier trying to clear abit that they can drive the 1½ miles from the disused RAF camp to the village (no shop there), along an open country lane; they go out and approx 10 mins later come back so won't have got through.
Even a police 4x4 couldn't get through earlier.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0
