been text that ds school and dd's preschool both shut tomorrow so I'm planning on going nowhere - maybe a bit of baking, some christmas crafts and a trip round the block on the sledge to alleviate cabin fever!

  • went down to the river today to feed the birds, i took a carrier bag full of odds and ends, bird seed , fatty stuff from the grill (yuck) crusts of bread etc etc, they go mad for the food, i know its daft but i cant help worrying about them and wondering if they get enough to eat, i know they probably do, but still. i cant put food out on the garden as my 4 cats make sure no bird enters their domain,

Dad arrived with bag rock salt earlier and more cat food too. Was very grateful as still too dizzy to drive. Kids were saying they were worried about being snowed in, and he said no worries your mum is well prepared she been warning of this for months. I was stunned as I was convinced it had all passed him by. But apparently they have taken some notice and bought extra stuff in as well. Am really pleased.

That's it. My mum and my gran were from Scotland, and my mum used to make this for us as a treat. It's a wonder my sister and I have any teeth left :rotfl:

Hello all from a cold but snow-less dorset!

My week got off to a bad start - on Monday night my mum's cat (actually just as much mine, was our family pet as I was growing up) had to be put to sleep :( She was old and poorly for a long time so I know it was for the best, in a way I actually felt a bit relieved as I was always worried about her. Still very sad though, she was such a character so I will miss her.

Booked my little kitten in to be spayed on friday, bless her. I will feel so guilty! At least then she'll be soon able to go outside, which might mean she's less bored and will stop destroying the house....! Planning to put the christmas tree up this weekend, should be fun!

Been buying a few xmas pressies this week, bought some Benefit makeup for my sister at a fraction of the RRP, on ebay. I hope it's ok, says new and boxed etc. Planning to get the Daily Telegraph this saturday to get the free Austin Reed scarf voucher.

A bit annoying this evening - we'd defrosted some chicken thighs and drumsticks, and DH put them in the oven...after a bit I smelt something really dodgy and realised that the chicken was gone-off. DH had taken them out of the freezer yesterday morning and left them out to defrost. But then we ended up spontaneously going out for dinner straight after work, and he forgot about the chicken so it ended up being out for 24 hours before he put it in the fridge this morning. So not too surprising that it wasn't right, really!

Had to go out on site yesterday morning for a few hours, blimmin heck I thought I was going to get frost bite on my face! My body was warm as I had loads of layers on, but I always find that my face freezes, as well as my hands despite wearing gloves. Been wearing walking boots to work - I don't care if they're not smart, at least they're warm and big enough to wear thick socks! Plus they're much safer to walk in when the pavements are slippery.

Forecast is for "heavy snow" overnight tonight, but I'll believe it when I see it. We're really close to the sea so rarely get snow, let alone anything substantial. I did bring some work home with me tonight though, in the hope that I'll have an excuse to work from home tomorrow! :D

Bought some gorgeous-looking faggots at the market today, not sure what to have with them though, any ideas appreciated.

Must remember to fill up my bird seed feeder - noticed a couple of days ago that it was empty, oops. There are a few fat balls out though. My dad got me a bird table for my birthday a few months ago, but it keeps getting blown over! Need to find a sheltered spot that the birds will still go to. Most of the food I put out gets eaten all in one go by a pair of really fat pigeons that sit on the neighbours roof waiting for me to come out!

I've been looking at photos of the snow on the BBC website - the amount that has fallen "up north" is incredible, I can't even fathom seeing that much snow falling and settling! Would love to have that much for once (providing I didn't have to go to work, and had lots of food etc in so no need to leave the house except to make a snowman! :rotfl: )

Maybe I'll wake up in the morning to a lovely white blanket outside...

    Keep warm folks

    BB

  • Yesterday and today I was taken straight back to childhood on the way to work as I tramped across fresh snow on the way to work, always guranteed to put a smile on my face :). Tonight I went to a friends house and have spent the evening curled up on the sofa with a glass of sparkling white in front of a roaring log fire, bliss :).
I know we are lucky as we have not had huge amounts of snow and the main roads are still clear, but my is it cold outside. I have not taken off my thermals after walking home tonight (not even in front of the fire).

BB1984 sorry to hear about the cat ((HUGS))
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
