  • What a good idea, jackie - never thought of that - had to smash the ice and add bucketfuls of hot water at intervals all day yesterday. Two of the troughs are plastic but will try with the other one that is an old enamel bath! What a great resource this board is. Thanks jackie

  • Well. it would have been a good idea if there was any space under the trough to put a blimmin candle!

  • Jack it up on some bricks or something? Might not be able to do it on your own, mind!

  • It's cast iron - weighs a ton - even when it isn't full of ice! Might ask OH to lift it with the tractor when he gets back - but he probably will laugh! Not too hard to break the ice each time I go past - it's just making even a dent in it first thing in the morning that's really hard.

    SNOW DAY!

Morning everyone from a white and beautiful Dorset :D

I know it's pitiful compared to many places, but we had a good 4" last night, and it's still falling steadily - we never get this much! I get the train to work, and did try my hardest - got about halfway, then the train sat in a station for 45 mins as there was a broken down train in front. Then got on a train going the other way and came home again! My boss is working from home too, as are many others I'm sure.

I don't have that much work with me that I can do, but I have my phone and can access my emails so will do what I can.

I have already made a snowman! :D I'm such a child! Love the snow.

Everything looks gorgeous, all the trees are covered and look like something from a christmas card. It's so lovely and quiet too, apart from the sound of kids playing :) I went out and replenished all my bird feeders, also put some crackers spread with bacon fat () out, so hopefully the birdies will hop on down and fatten themselves up.

Took my little kitten out with me....let's just say she's not a fan! Shivered like mad, and wouldn't let me put her down, bless her, couldn't wait to get back inside (where the old, wise cat was sitting, next to the radiator!)

Thank you so much for all the hugs and wishes re my other cat, you are all very kind. Found a photo of her on my phone this morning and it made me well up a little, I think I will miss her for a long time. Might get a photo printed and framed - I know it's a bit sad! But she was such a beautiful girl - long haired with gorgeous greeny-blue eyes.

ANYWAY, hope you are all keeping warm and snug. Also I hope you all have plenty of stocks so that you don't have to venture out. My neighbour went out in the car this morning, skidding all over the place - said they were expecting a tesco delivery and had absolutely no food in the house. I did offer to give them some stuff, but he said not to worry. Mad if you ask me, to get to the stage where you have absolutely nothing in, not when you've got 3 young kids to feed too. Obviously not as OS-er....! :rotfl: (anyway, just looked out of the window and they are back safe, so that's good)

My OH is still at work, he walks so got there ok. He's gutted that I'm at home and he's not, hahaha!

    Sending warm thoughts...

    BB

  • Can't believe the weather. I had to walk home from work yesterday (about 6 miles) because the buses stopped running! Managed to get in this morning though and I don't think we'll have more like last night. I wish I could stay wrapped up at home though. We found out yesterday that our first (and only NHS funded so only for years until we save up) IVF cycle has failed and I'm feeling pretty miserable about it. Still, have to carry on with life right? I must say though please, I don't want stories of all the people you know who got pregnant after failed IVFs, I know it happens but right now it isn't comforting.

We did get some good news yesterday, our gas and electric bill came and we're £259 in CREDIT on our account!! We've also had our monthly bill reduced to £56 for both. This doesn't mean we're going to go mad with it over winter but it's good to know I can put the heating on without worrying about the bill too much, especially as we get our extra £50 for being duel fuel customers in winter as well as an added bonus. It was such a relief. If only we had an efficient boiler and we could save even more money...
