Weather forecast for today, Thursday 2nd December.
Severve weather conditions, bringing on a smattering of whinging kids with cold wet gloves causing general widespread migraines.
Showers of slippy slippy sideways cars leading to increased insurance claims & Storms whipping up broken down cars chased by floods of AA, RAC & Greenflag trucks.
Have a nice day & take care in the seasonal weather!!!0 -

Ours came....slightly later than usual which I put down to them driving more slowly than usual, but they made it.0 -
Ooh - the sun has come out! Just in time to melt the snow slightly before the sun goes down, temps plummet and the snow gets covered in a nice crust of ice - brilliant! :rotfl:
Swept off a patch of my garden shed and the lawn to sprinkle down some ground-feeder bird seed. 2 mins later, down swooped the magpies! Saw something interesting, actually - two crows dive-bombing a bird of prey. Not sure what it was - I'm not good with birds. Consulted my little bird book and it's definitely not a kestrel or an eagle! It was quite large - about twice the size of the crows, had a fanned tail, and was darker brown on it's top then it's underbelly, which was a creamy colour.
Went outside and had a look at my roof - was pleased to see that the snow hasn't melted at all, apart from one patch by the bathroom extractor fan. Looking at my neighbours houses, quite a few have started to melt a bit, and I think that means that my loft insulation is better than theirs! (either that or they're more generous with the heating than I am!)

Just got an email from our guy in charge of gritting (I work for a L.A.), copied and pasted below:
Update on weather and highways actions.
We have received the detailed daily forecast which confirms the very low temperatures over night. Temperatures across the county will drop significantly below zero at 5pm. Our planned actions remain as previously published.
3pm, 8pm and 5am treating the presalting network.
There is a risk of further snow showers over night of 1 to 3 cm.
Tomorrow morning will remain very cold with ice being the major hazard.
We will review the condition of the network tomorrow morning and plan our actions to keep the salted network clear and start to clear routes into the smaller communities.
Forecast into the weekend is for warmer daytime temperatures which will help clear some of the snow. Nights will be cold with significant ice on the network. Snow forecast is for no snow over the weekend but confidence is low.
They seem to be doing everything they can, it's just that grit/salt has a limited impact when you have snow, as it just gets buried and compacted. Also, without lots of traffic to spread the salt around, again it has limited effect. Just one of those things, don't think we can blame the councils, really. Certainly here in Dorset they seem to be doing their best.

p.s. Pitlanepiglet I am right over in the east of the county, in poole. My boss lives on the devon side of the county border, and he said it's less snowy, but colder, down that way!"Live long, laugh often, love much"

When they were younger I used to make mine wear rubber gloves over their woollen gloves. Adult size rubber gloves were big enough to go on over their own gloves. Saved a lot of whinging
DD won't do it now - sooo not cool (as it were)It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Our LA (lucky me I get to work for them!) have published their gritting schedule and how they intend to tackle it on the council website but the snow seems to be coming down so fast at times that it's fallen before they've finished their rounds of the streets and all the grit is covered over. It has snowed a bit today here but not so much and I really don't think we're going to get more, certainly not in the quantities we had yesterday (I'm in Leeds) but we shall see. I'm just glad I did invest in my snow gloves, at least my hands will be warm and dry and if I'm useless enough to fall over in it (as I usually do!) they'll be protected a bitOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

We are approx 15 miles up the road but on the coast between Grimsby & Louth
We're practically neighbours! We live about 27 miles from Grimsby!
Snowing on and off here all day - stopped for a while but the sky is full of it. Big chunk of snow slipped off back roof & tore the stench pipe off the wall - Have taken some phot's and will post some pics later if I can persuade DH to help me put them on :snow_grin:snow_grin:snow_grin:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls
