Am really pleased cos I have managed to get all but one load of washing done including uniforms, shopping done just ironing to complete, house looking ok. So am hoping for a quiet weekend, and if the snow does happen to turn up we will be able to enjoy it guilt free knowing all the jobs are done :)

Buying selection boxes for school grotto on Monday - school has 200 pupils and been asked to buy 100 selection boxes, I appreciate its an after school event and kids will pay 50p to see Santa and get a box, but is 100 going to be enough? I will be picking up DD4 and taking her along and I assume other families must have younger children too, but this is well out of my area of expertise (its a new committee with no experience of running these events at all and school have never held a Christmas Fayre before) so if anybody has any ideas I would be grateful.

Thanks for all the thermals suggestions, will be popping to Primark next week, had parents eve for DD last night and was hoping to catch DS pe teacher to discuss the issue but he didnt turn up, it was quite funny really cos there were literally a dozen or more parents all trying to see him about one thing or another all unhappy he wasnt there (teacher next door commented to one other staff member that he thought the PE teacher knew parents wanted to see him so he stayed clear!! ) :) As DS is getting upset and anxious about it I am definitely going to buy him the black ones if at all possible, he gets really anxious and worries about this sort of stuff.

Did my weekly shopping today and am trying to spend as little as possible managed to get everything we need for £25, and will use the freezers to supplement - will be good cos its helping empty the freezer too :)

Blimey, I'd get more than 100.......and surely you're not going to be making any money on selection boxes if the children are going in for 50p a time? (Note - I don't know how much they are as DD rarely eats choc and so I don't buy them).

I'm on DD's school PTA and we buy loads of stuff, yes the pupils will come in with their siblings, Father Christmas will be a busy boy. I think last year he ran out about 2/3 of the way through the fete and we had over 200 through the grotto.

I'd raise the price to at least £1 (think ours is £2 or £2.50 and for that they're getting a Christmassy notepad/pencil/rubber or a plastic Father Christmas mug, about £1-£1.50 worth of goodies). It's a lot cheaper than going to a shopping centre grotto and also raises money for the school.

PM me if you'd like a few ideas for your PTA. Good luck! Have fun (and a good glass of wine or two afterwards, lol).

I'd get more than 100 too. Nothing more disappointing for kids to find that Father Christmas has run dry . If it gets near the end and you have a lot left over then you could always put up a quick stall and sell them off so people can use them as gifts.

I would also charge £1 per child. Nobody will begrudge that I am sure.

Kittikins - I would be grateful for some PTA ideas if you don't mind PMing me - I plan to join the girls' PTA in the new year and would love to go in with ideas :)

Flowertotmum ... oh, that's terrible, sending healing thoughts for poor little Sam. I can only imagine how awful you must be feeling ... and I bet your daughter is too. She is probably blaming the Doc cos she is frightened and feeling guilty. I'm sure she needs you now too. Keep us posted, won't you?
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

I'm so sorry, that's really horrible. Hoping poor little Sam has a speedy recovery

A word of caution re your daughter if I may. I would be spitting feathers just like you, I really would and it's totally justified. However, try not to burn your bridges by lashing out at her in the heat of the moment while you are all upset. You don't want to risk alienating her totally.... your little grandson needs someone with some common sense around (and your love) and if you go too far with your daughter, he might lose you
  • Flowertotmum - sending good vibes your way and huge (((hugs))) to Sam x x x x

    flowertomum,

Hope little sam makes a full recovery.

When the white hot rage subsides it might be worth sitting the lass down and calmly and clearly spelling out how sick he's been and how she has a responsibilty to prevent it happening again.
