So as we've adjusted we have noticed we save on average £5 a week!

So we have decided that the 'actual' cost of these items is to go into a pot as of December....

When the contract ends this pot should be £100+

So in future when I see cheese on offer I can take £10 from the pot and buy it, freeze it, and then if I reckon it'll last 10 weeks... I will put £1 a week back into the pot for 10 weeks!!!

Or TOOTHPASTE! My bugbear is that this is the only thing I won't scrimp on... and it costs so much!! It goes on offer only 1 or 2 times a year!! Next time I am buying a years worth!!!

Anyway my point is... put aside £2 a week and within a year you could have £100 fall back/bulk buy pot to help keep cupboards full!!!

    It does mean being organised!!

    Buy soap.

    Why?

Well soap you have just bought is soft and will dissolve rapidly when you start using it.

Soap that has been stored for a while last way longer. i found out when I bought theb house and inherited a couple of bars stll in their wrappers. The first one was still going strong a year later and it is not like I am stingy on the lather - given how often I come in all mucked up from gardening.

I honestly can't remember if I have passed on our good news.

DH was working a 4 day week during the summer, which was very tight we were doing carboot sales to have food money as once all the bills had been paidthere was nothing left over; things sort of got back to normal in Sept, then in late Oct the company has been bought out/amalgamated within another much larger company owned by the boss's best friend.

DH is now working a 12 day on 2 day off shift pattern and has had a substantial pay rise, the new contracts etc have been done on continuation of service so all his redundancy rights etc are carried forward.

Surfice it to say we actually now have spare money each week which is going straight into savings
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

  • Congratulations gailey, I've got my second scan on the 13th of December and we're hoping to find out what flavour we're getting this time so I can get all prepared with clothes and stuff, like you I have a loft full of little girl clothes from our first but will have to put these on fleabay and buy little boy ones if I've got a blue bump! At least we've got 20 weeks or so to get organised. Good luck to your OH on the job front I know that would be a big help to you so I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Mama67 - what fab news glad there's another one of us got an early christmas pressie.

Right off to make yoghurt now then do the shopping list for later, looking at the weather though I might make my OH pick us up once he's finished work rather than get the bus into town and walk to Mr T because by the time we get there DD and I will be little drowned rats! DD is happily amusing herself on the rug with her books - she's a real little book monster, so it looks like I've got a few minutes to sort the yogurt.

Soap can also be dried out by a few days in the airing cupboard, which will prolong its life

I always keep my soap in the airing cupboard and it's true it does last longer. I'm a bit fussy and have sensitive skin so I only ever buy purenuffstuff soap and you have to keep it dry otherwise it melts away, so I pop the soapdish in the bathroom airing cupboard after I've used it.

To be honest she has tried to find a weekend job, but currently her school work takes up so much time I fail to see how she will fit it in. Currently she gets home from school at 3.30pm and then does homework till dinner, half an hour dinner then homework till 9.30pm. Weekends she gets up, breakfasts, will do a few jobs for me, then back to homework. If she is lucky she can manage a couple of hours on a Sunday to see boyfriend or visit friends. I am praying that when she goes to college the amount of work she gets will drop and she can actually have a life. That is why choosing the right college is critical, we have seen one that says she must attend all day 8.45 to 4.30pm then do 20 hours minimum work outside of college. The one near the kids schools is much more relaxed and says come in for lessons four days a week, and do no more than 20hours work outside of lesson time, most of which can be achieved on free periods.

Your daughter is working really hard, she must be very motivated. I wish I could get my DD16 to do the same! Good luck with finding the college that's right for her.
