  • Hugs to Sammy & everyone else having a tough time at the moment. Nobody should be told that they are worthless. If he won't sit down and talk about things and stop putting you down all the time then it probably is time for a break, even if it's a temporary one. It won't do you or your kids good to be in that kind of relationship. It's not good for your self-esteem and it's not a good example of a relationship to set the kids. You wouldn't want them being treated like that in future because they think it's normal would you? Here's wishing you the strength to deal with things. x

DS has his first cold. He kept waking up last night & crying in his sleep & DH noticed this morning that he was coughing a little & sniffling.

I had to aspirate out his nostrils, which he really didn't like!

Thankfully it doesn't seem to be too bad so far (touch wood!) I gave him half a spoon of Calpol & hopefully the breastmilk & the fact that the flat is still quite damp from the drying nappies are combining to ameliorate his symptoms. His eyes are a little dull when they are normally sparkling but he doesn't have a fever at the moment & I'm hoping he won't develop one. At least I already have some olbas oil so I will put a few drops on an old sock or something at bed time and stick it under his sheet.

I have the urge to bake but I daren't as we had the in-laws over for tea yesterday and DH got a leetle bit carried away buying stuff for it. We wound up spending around £30 more than usual at the supermarket. I'm still not quite sure what it all went on! We now have all the left-overs to use up so I can't justify making anything else until they're gone.

Having a slow day today, so late on here but wanted to send big ((((hugs))) to Sammy K - stress can make people behave very badly and it does sound as if Owen is very stressed and possibly depressed. You are such a caring lass you don't deserve this but I am sure you will come through this.

(((Hugs))) to Lovelife and your niece as well - makes our little problems seem so silly! I hope and pray that her health improves also your nephew!

Today I have only managed to walk the dog and put a load of washing on! Still it is going in the right direction and I intend to make some old fashioned rock buns now for dh's lunchbox. His office is miles from anywhere so he needs a lunchbox and at least he won't be tempted to spend anything! Still eating from the storecupboard and have 1 more piece of salmon in the freezer which I will divide into two and cook in foil parcels with some prawns, served with some baby courgettes from garden and some couscous from huge supply (thanks to App foods). Pudding will be another tin of peaches. So I can avoid doing any shopping today!:j

I found and printed templates for the bunting - I know it should be easy but as this is for dd's wedding I want it to be perfect as possible! Also going to make some padded fabric hearts to match, will join them in drops of 3 so they can pretty up the marquee. I found some vintage buttons to stictch on them as well as some from her baby clothes. I've been drying rose petals all summer for confetti but think we are at the end of the supply now! Might have to buy just a little more to pad them out and root out some pretty scrapbook papers to make cones to put the petals into.

btw I worried yesterday that I may have seemed a little over confident about recession etc., what I meant is that although I am now not as fearful about what the next year may bring I am still quite anxious about my family, just that being pro-active in an old styley way seems to lessen the anxiety for me. My Mum used to say that if you had a worry that you could do nothing about, then go find something else to do! I am only now realising just how wise she was!:)

katholicos - brilliant, what you have found online is actually international crochet charting which can be understood in any language. For more crochet information I cannot recommend too highly enough Lucy's blog (google Attic 24) where she gives very clear instructions which take the mystery out of crochet patterns.

We would love to see piccies of your work over on the Crochet Anyone thread.

Keep going and you'll be 'hooked'

    Bella.

Thanks Bella. I will try to upload some pics...though my crochet so far is very amateurish! Will defo find the crochet thread and post any pics on there. :)

Sending good thoughts, hugs and prayers
  • I tend to lurk, nothing to say that hasn't already been said but I wanted to say I am sorry sammy-k and I hope whatever decision you take it becomes the right one for you, in things like there are no right or wrong choices, just what is best for you and I wish you well.
I also am glad that Ceridwen is back.

Huge hugs to ((((((((((Sammy-Kaye, lovelife and Kidcat))))))))))

Its horrible that so many of us are going thru such a hard time atm... and am sure others on here inc lurkers are having terrible times too but not posting about them so (((((hugs))))) to you too.

Well the cat5h1t shoes are still outside my house so unfortunately they didn't get stolen but I feel in more of a coping mood today so will prob clean them.

Was looking at the Aldi super6 for this week on their website and have decided that I will prob mealplan around the super6 each week... topping up the shopping with bits from MrT if I need to.

    The super6 are

    Cucumber
    carrots
    onions
    new potatoes
    brocolli
    swede all at 39p

So I will do tuna and cucumber salad with new potatoes
    beef stew with brocolli
    lamb hotpot with brocolli
fried up new pots with chorizo and onion

So all i need to buy is tuna, lamb and beef, milk, bread fresh fruit for this week as I have frozen veg and lots of other bits and bobs in the freezer. Just as well really as I am horribly overdrawn due to car repairs and an unexpected bill last month.

Still feeling really narked about the VAT rise in Jan because altho they dropped prices when VAT came down, they soon put it up again so we were no better off anyway. Does anyone else think that?

Is there anywhere that I can see a list of what things are affected... I know loo roll is but apart from that i'm not 100% what is and what isn't affected.

My if it isn't a glorious day here today!

Out of curiosity, I put the indoor thermometer outside, and at the time of typing, it went to 35c in the sun and 23c in the shade.....not bad for an October day

Got me a load of washing on the line, I've weeded the patio slabs (IYKWIM) front and back, and have swept up a bag full of fallens leaves off my buddleia tree (again) got all the windows and my patio door open, and am now about to have a good old polish & hoover through the lounge.

I adore autumnal days - they are soooo good for the soul :)

frugal - most basic foodstuffs are exempt from VAT but some foods are VATable. The following are all subject to VAT so stock up before the end of December:

    Chocolate,
    Chocolate biscuits
    Any chocolate-type snacks
Savoury snacks such as crisps, cheesy snacks & other savory snack packets and, chewy snack bars.
Toiletries, hard soap, liquid soap, perfumes, moisturising creams, sun block creams, lipstick & makeup
Toilet rolls, Kitchen tissue paper, aluminium foil, cling film
Laundry liquids & powders, washing up liquids, dishwater liquids & tablets, household cleaners & disinfectants.

No doubt others can add to this list. If you shop at Costco it's easier because two prices are shown for each item, i.e. The basic price, and the Price including VAT. We plan to clear some space in our garage in December and go there for a massive stock-up of all VATable items, which will hopefully save us a little money.
