Sammy-Kaye. One of my rules is "never interfere in someone elses marriage problems"(!) but I wondered if this may help. I may be wrong but do you live fairly close to in-laws? It may really be worth going to MIL and letting her know that you are both at the end of your tethers. Forgive me if i'm speaking out of turn but he has already gone through this before hasn't he? Your in laws may really not want to see it happen again, another lot of grandchildren side lined. She may be the one to tell him to put up and grow up. Sometimes, your mum telling you off works wonders. In the mean time love be strong, sometimes the darkest problems have a way of working out. Hugs and kisses.0

frugal - most basic foodstuffs are exempt from VAT but some foods are VATable. The following are all subject to VAT so stock up before the end of December:
Chocolate,
Chocolate biscuits
Any chocolate-type snacks
Savoury snacks such as crisps, cheesy snacks & other savory snack packets and, chewy snack bars.
Toiletries, hard soap, liquid soap, perfumes, moisturising creams, sun block creams, lipstick & makeup
Toilet rolls, Kitchen tissue paper, aluminium foil, cling foil
Laundry liquids & powders, washing up liquids, dishwater liquids & tablets, household cleaners & disinfectants.
No doubt others can add to this list. If you shop at Costco it's easier because two prices are shown for each item, i.e. The basic price, and the Price including VAT. We plan to clear some space in our garage in December and go there for a massive stock-up of all VATable items, which will hopefully save us a little money.
Oh :eek::eek::eek::eek: Thats a LOT of stuff0 -
Hi Sammy love I am thinking of you today after reading your post, and am sending you a big hug and hope that whatever you decide to do is the right thing for you all. Ever since I first learned of Martin's site I remembered your name as all your posts were about managing money, being a wonderful Mum and being so positive and working hard in all you did. It seemed to me that you were always struggling with your money trying to make it stretch as best you could, and I couldn't fail to notice that your oh wasn't pulling with you? I have been there too a very long time ago, and you sound a wonderful and loving person Sammy, and you are a smashing Mummy to Ben and little Hollie. You deserve to be respected and treated well, and yes little ones will see it all and they are like little sponges who soak everything up around them. Be strong Sammy love and God Bless you. Margaret xxDo a little kindness every day.;)0

I bought extra loo roll and kitchen roll a couple of weeks ago but will be taking my mum for a second stocking up before the end of December. We don't have much storage space and she has very kindly said we can store things in her spare room (what was my old bedroom!) if we wishOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T
CC: £6412.95 (0% APR until Feb 2015 which I'm hoping is also my DFD!)
Currently awaiting the outcome of a PPI claim which may bring forward my DFD, fingers and toes crossed!0 -
Yet another lurker here popping in. Sammy I hope thing improve for you and hubby. You only have to read your inspirational posts to know what a lovely person you are. Goodluck with whatever you decide to do. Maybe he is projecting his insecurities about himself on to you. I guess he is struggling with his work issues and is venting. Hugs to you.
Lovelife, that bought a tear to my eye too. I'm counting my blessings. Hugs to you and your family also.Good Enough Club member number 20 -

Thanks Pink... Interesting to see how you can avoid the VATable products by say, buying choc chip cookies rather than chocolate cookies
Altho I do agree with mambury that it will be used as an excuse to put up the prices of everything
More belt tightening for me thenJust as well really as I can hardly fit my jeans atm
