Thanks for the support re smoking everyone
I used hypnotherapy once to give up... I kind of feel the same as after my hypno... I have been practising mind techniques and I think something has clicked as I am probably only thinking about cigarettes a couple of times a day which for a 20+ a day smoker, is pretty good!!!
I think it has helped that I am keeping busy with crafts with the DDs and homebaking... Much nicer to do that than smoke!!! Whatever was I thinking?!!!
And I think I will use the first of my cig money savings for a de-humidifier for downstairs - the upstairs one is doing a fab job at making the house more comfortable and my knees, which usually ache in autumn/winter/spring from damp, don't ache. i think its because my bedroom (which I spend rather a lot of time in) is so dry.
Sinus thing is getting worse... I'm worried I am sickening for something. Fell asleep on the sofa for over an hour earlier and I very very rarely do that. Just took a Beechams cold and flu, and will take NightNurse tonight and have an early one.
Thank goodness I have plenty in! My mother thinks I am a loony with all the stuff I have in my cupboards... errrrr maybe I am
At least if I do get poorly, I have enough in to keep us going except milk and fresh veg but the milk and more website deliver loads of stuff inc fruit and veg boxes!!! So we will be fineGot cold and flu stuff in for me and DDs and around £70 on the gas meter. I am trying to keep it above £50 in case of emergencies.
The kids loved making the pomanders and they are in a tissue paper lined box in the airing cupboard now so fingers crossed none of them go mouldy and that they all dry out nicely for here at christmas, and to give away
Was thinking of making some little cheese and brocolli pasties this afternoon but am gonna rest instead. Project for tomorrow - Oh, and we ate all the HM sausage rolls we made yesterdayThey are just tooooooo good and the pastry is rather too easy... I feel another tyre is going to appear on this waistline
Weather here is dreadful... The wind and rain lashing at my front windows... So glad those windows were replaced.
Goodness, its FRIDAY tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

Im on antibiotics right now , with nasal sprays , again cos of sinus, my headaches constant, I cant stop coughing, on top of that SAD, oh dear please put me down someone......!!!!! Yes its been cold , windy and wet here today. So glad ive got the comfort of a warm home ,id be quite miserable right now if I didnt have a warm home, take care.0 -
It's cold at the mo -and not really even Winter yet
DD has a 14tog duvet on her bed and has taken to sleeping with her dressing gown on. I do feel a bit mean - but the heating is on (5.50-8am and 7-10pm) I may put it on 1/2hr earlier in the evenings, as I'm really cold by 7 (and that's wearing thick socks and shoes, ajumper and a tshirt and sittng with a wheat bag. Our house 'eats' fuel though - 17 radiators and all in used rooms (the play room's the least used, but it's like a fridge in there even with the rad on, so I don't want ti turn it down) I see other people's electricty/ gas useage/ bills and I'm so jealous. I use about 125-130 units of electricity a week....:eek: (and taht's with keeping an eye on things and having a monitor!! And we have cavity wall insulation) And that'll increase as it gets colder/ darker....
Greent
Have you looked at what sort of insulation is in the loft?
If you have a big house, you will have various chimney effects. If you have any old chimney breasts, they will be sucking heat up chimney and out into the air. But if you have an open asstaircase runnig three floors, that will also be sucking warm air up the house. I close my attic bedroom off in the winter (not occupied) and that reduces the problem. My sister has a very thick curtain that closes off the corridor with the playroom at the top of the house.
We reckon that in her house (huge), pullling all the curtains closed at dusk keeps the house 5-10 degrees warmer in the evening. And we can tell when someone has left the doorsnake off the back door.
Looking at your timings, I would suggest turning off the heating half an hour earlier in the morning. And I would suggest turning it on an hour earlier in the evening and off a half hour sooner at the end of the day.
With respect to clothing, with the kids use the sniff and fold technique if possible. Or leave whatever has been worn and is not too bad for them to change into one night when they come home really grubby.
Do you use energy saving lamps?
And computers, phone chargers and low voltage lights all keep comsuming when switched off. Unplug low voltage lights and chargers. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

head over a basin of very hot water, perhaps with oil in it, to start with. Consider saunas and acupunture. That worked for me.
Had years from age 16 with dreadful screaming sinusitis and finally cleared it with acupuncture, although I think the saunas had started to loosen it. Got the most dreadful throat and chest infection from the junk that came down but that went.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Just playing around with the supermarket comparison site... I had no idea cheese... most cheddar types... are MORE expensive per kilo than a whole leg of lamb  not to mention lots of other joints and cuts of meat esp the slow cooking types.
Its nice sure, but its just CHEESE!!!!!0 -

Well well, thanks for that im going to look on line in a few mins for a acupunturist near to me .. Getting sick of going to the Drs every 3 to 4 weeks for more tabs that never seem to work. thanls ras.:D0 -

!
But thats one of the whole points of being well stocked-up with food (and other essentials) - ie that if you are too ill to go shopping then there is still plenty of food in to eat:D. I certainly "learnt my lesson" on that when I've been too ill to do anything much (including shopping) before now - I didnt go hungry, but I DID have to have a diet which consisted largely of whatever I could ask someone else to buy in for me (bless her heart - as she was trying to help - but it consisted largely of readymeals......:(). I vowed then to make sure I was always well supplied...
Bad weather is also a very good reason. Some of us live in parts of the country where we are some way away from shops/might get cut off in bad weather/etc - and its a blessing in those circumstances as well to know that there will still be food on the table:D0 -

Cheddar is also only medium high in calcium. Swiss cheeses such as Emmental and Gruyere are much higher, Dutch cheese such as Gouda and Edam are medium high (and are sometimes cheaper especially as they come in slices for a good price at Lidl and Aldi) and highest of all is Parmesan - which is also quite cheap at Lidl. As it's so strong you can get all the flavour you need and a good whack of calcium from a much smaller quantity than you would need with cheddar. Sainsbury's Basics do a Parmesan type cheese but I think the calcium content comes from the mineral content of the soil round Parma so probably worth sticking to the real thing -
And low fat cheese eg cottage cheese, fromage frais, is hardly worth bothering with if you are looking for sources of calciumIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
For those looking for seeds there's a thread on the Grabbit board for £10 off a £10 spend at Thompson & Morgan.

it is a really good deal but if you do not want junk mail, you have to do the opposite to what is advised.
It states
"Tick this box if you do wish to receive special email offers from Thompson & Morgan", in which there is a tick already
and
"Tick this box if you do want us to share your name and address with selected third party companies. Note that we will never share your email address with anyone" in which there is a tick.
In both cases you have to UNTICK the box to avoid junk mail.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

I was in my thirties, had already had several outpaitient treatments as well as loads of antibiotics which just wrecked my digestive system and my metabolism and the doctor said it was surgery or put up with it.
Someone else had successful acupunture treatment for hay fever, so I thought I would try it.
Twenty years later, I am still fine.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
