  • wmf thanks for the advice. The sickness the GP predicted from the antibiotics has started already :( so I am now off work. I'm hoping to go back on Monday and I am waiting to hear if I can use my time owing for the time I have had off sick rather than have it as sick leave. As I said the company sickness policy is sever and I already take time fairly regularly to take DS2 to various hospital appointments so need to be careful. Still at least the antibiotics seem to be working as my chest feels a lot easier.
kidkat it sounds as if your son will be better off staying at the current school as the staff seem to care more. Does this make your school run any easier as I remember you saying it was very difficult with the children being at different schools.
frugal good luck with the stopping smoking. I stopped 18 years ago. Just think of the health benefits and the money that you will save.
Annie 56 I had only been seperated from my first husband for 6 weeks when Istatred seeing MR VP and I knew within 2 weeks that I wanted to grow old with him. That was 19 years ago and despite one or two ups and downs we are still going strong.

Its sunny and windy here today so I am getting the washing done and pegged out on the line. Distraction therapy to try to blot out the nausea.

Hope everyones gardens survived the sever winds last night.

I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

I live just outside of Eastbourne and a new store has opened up called Family Bargains. They have the usual range of branded and non branded products as you find in any supermarket, but at almost half the price. I had already started doing bits of my weekly shop in different places to reduce costs but for basics I am finding this store hard to beat.

  • haven't been on for a while as DH had some holiday time owed from work so we spent the week or so, just chilling and spending time together - was lovely!!!

we are still struggling on, DH got paid a little more than we expected(thank goodness for monthly bonuses!!) so rather than us having no money at all, we ended up being able to go shopping but now we are back in the overdraft, no idea how as i've been careful!!

i started a budgeting course last week at the children's centre and it looks like it's going to be really good - by the end of the course we will apparently know(or roughly) what we will have in our bank account NEXT christmas!!

also decided that i am going to aim to have at least 3 no spend days each week!
making a start on some christmas pressies this week too - homemade calenders to start with and homemade xmas cards, will also do a few trial runs of choc truffles :)

hope everyone is ok and hugs etc to anyone that needs them

Gailey -sending you big hugs and some virtual flowers too. :) The stomach bug is what has been circling our house on and off for weeks, I just seem to get one over it and the other will start. DD4 off to GP this afternoon as she now had it four times and this time its just not budging. Alll I can suggest it to keep disinfecting toilets, sinks, and all worksurfaces, table tops etc. I am anti bac wiping lights switches all the time to try killing it off once and for all.

Mrs veg plot- no it means I am stuck with the complicated school run - but in reality I would much rather that than him be unhappy again, I dont object to the run its just when I get bother cos I am a minute late that it upsets me.

Had another college open evening last night and although it has an impressive set of results and is a lovely building - it seemed huge and souless, cold even. Each subject teacher only interested in their own bit and not how it would fit together for the student. Compulsory enrichment time (sports, drama, arts etc) - which is nice as a choice but not compulsory, all seems ver y high pressured and as DD16 does not react well to pressure (she had glandular fever last year) I really think she would be better in a less pressured enviroment - at the moment her school is all pressure, has been since she arrived because she is one of the top twenty pupils they have alot riding on her results.
If she did the other college she would only be a short walk away from DD4 school so it is possible that from Sept I could drop the two off on route and she could drop DD4 into class for me and pick up at end of day as she does now, that would take alot of the pressure off.

Been shopping today and Lidl are selling packets of handwarmers for 99p - they are circles of gel that you snap the metal disc inside and they heat up straight away, you can re-use them by putting in boiling water for ten minutes to rest and then snap the metal disc before next use. i think they will be ideal for the deep winter months, especially for kids (the two eldest do PE outside in all weathers in short/skort and short sleeved top) who could keep them in pocket.

    Hi all,

Gailey what a nightmare with your stepson.
kidcat so glad your son is staying at his current school. hopefully things will get better now
mardatha :rotfl::rotfl:you could tell whati've been watching!!!

I've decided to leave the seed shopping in town till next week, went to look today but its so busy with chirstmas shoppers.Instead i was very naughty and bought two 100g toblerone bars and marshmallows out of home bargains for us to eat tonight:o.
I'm off for a birthday weekend bash, but first we have to take coddy for an assesment for the secondary school then shoot off.

On the home front, still have to speak to landlady about the boiler etc. But the house move looks likely to be after xmas. So fingers crossed it going tlo happen. Getting all ecited thinking about it.

Bread flours gone up on sainsbugs now 89p for 1.5kg, plain and self raising flour both 52p for 1.5kg.
So thats my budget messed up for next month:mad:.
ah well will just have to keep tightening up the purse strings.

My DD has got to make shortcrust pastry next week, she got list off the teacher who said if anybody doesnt have flour at home dont worry I have some here, I understand its not worth buying a big bag of flour if you wont use it. MY DD started laughing hysterically for ages till she eventually managed to explain that there was no such thing as no flour in our house, that our garage is packed to the rafters with the stuff. :) Thats going to make an interesting parents evening converstation :)

Now I know what the school situation is I have written a Christmas list as DS will want to give both his teacher and TA a gift, and if he is spending time in mainstream class he will want a gift for that teacher too and of course his dinner lady too. Am going with mugs with stuff in for all except his teacher and TA as they got mugs in the summer. I am also starting to plan birthday parties as both DS6 and DD4 have early March birthdays, and usually share a party so it takes some serious planning. :)

Has anybody got any suggestions for shredded paper? Its not accepted in our recycling bin and I have been shredding old bank statements etc so have two bin bags of the stuff, seems terrible to throw in the bin.

kidcat - if you've got a compost bin, a fair amount of shredded paper can be mixed into it along with grass cuttings and other garden & kitchen waste. We put some of our newspaper in, and the torn up inners of our loo and kitchen tissue rolls and it all seems to rot down. Do you have any neighbours who keep rabbits or guinea pigs? Shredded paper is useful for their bedding.

Gailey - meant to say about stepson, does your husband have parental responsibility - can he ask for referral to CAMHs, which is the childrens mental health service, it sound as though he would benefit from some type of counselling and they are the group who can organise it. Also worth contacting school and seeing if they have any allocation of educational psychologist they could access for him, if school are unwilling his GP can step in and ask. I found a local Christian group who ran a number of projects in our area including counsellors and we had one support DS6 last year when he was at old school and in living nightmare. He was amazing and his support for all of us during that time was so valuable, it was when he gave us his report of what he had seen at school that enabled us to remove him. So it may be worth looking online to see if anything similar near where he is living.
