Wish I could find a way of keeping bananas fresh longer than a few days!!

I had some success keeping bananas in the fridge wrapped in a couple of layers of t-towels, they need to be kept warmer than your usual fridge temperature so the t-towels help (or you can buy an expensive bag from Lakeland!).

What about if you dehydrated bananas? Do you think if he was involved in the process of dehydrating them they would still be bananas to him?

  • kidcat, the yellow banana bag from lakeland really does work. We have used it to keep bananas in the fridge for weeks

Bearing in mind that ripe fruit in the bowl helps speed up the ripening process, could you maybe try the reverse process by buying very green bananas and storing them in a cupboard well away from anything ripe. Possibly a cool, dark environment (garage/shed/utility?) may slow them down also

kidcat we were like that last year with snips, he's obsessed with apples and banana's. Last year i put some banana's in the freezer sliced up and then defrosted them for snips. Luckily he ate them quite happily. So that was our life saver during the snow.
Hope you get something sorted out with thschools soon.
Today i had to go shopping again, we have lterally gone through a kilo of cheese in a week:eek::eek::eek:

  • Well the idea of walking to and from work has gone out of the window this week. The cold I started with two weeks ago has developed into a fully fledged chest infection. Its years since I had to pay for a prescription, £14.40 for antibiotics and an inhalor took my breath away . I nearly had to take the inhalor on the spot. I would not mind but the Gp has told me that as he has had to give me strong antibiotics I will start to feel sick in a few days time but to keep on taking them until I finish the course. Lucky me.

Still working as they have a very sever sickness policy but I will not be going in when I do start feeling sick. Apart from cooking tea I don't have the energy for anything else in the evenings. OH has stepped up to the plate and has pottered around the house a bit tidying, washing dishes and emptying bins.

Hope everones kids and dads are on the mend.
For those who were worried about catheters remember they need plenty of fluids and cranberry juice does work.

Heating is now on during the night as I am really feeling the cold at the moment and cold air really sets my chest off at the moment

On the subject of keeping bananas longer I found putting them in the garage helps but as it is so cold in there I am sure that it is the same as keeping them in the fridge.

Off for another early night wrapped up with a brew and a book.

    Keep warm

I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

Thanks for the banana suggestions, hadnt even considered freezing them, so may do a little experiment just in case. Will also take a look at lakeland for the bags and try one in the fridge too.

Have decided to run the main freezer down over next two weeks to defrost it, its so frosted up i am sure it must be costing me more to run, so will monitor its usage both before and after and report back.

Have noticed one of the hamsters has chewed a big hole in side of cage and it wont be long before its so big she can escape so need to start looking at new cages that are chew proof - I was obviously mistaken that all hamsters cages would be chew proof already.

Thanks for those who have asked about my Dad - he has another infection due to his catheter not being changed often enough in hospital. Makes me livid. Apart from that, and a stomach bug... I guess he is ok! I have a cold, and DD was sick at the weekend so we won't be going to visit him this week just in case. But will be over next week I hope :)

Am laughing at BBC1 Jimmy's Food Factory :D Loved the squirty cream.. and omg those noodles! hahaha!

Hope everyone is well and keeping warm :)

Bake then halve. Scoop the insides out put in a bowl and and save the skins Mash with pepper, butter and grated cheese and maybe some nutmeg and then beat a little with a spoon. Spoon into the empty skins. Cool and open freeze. Then pack in poly bags

Thaw and grill when needed or bake frozen

My children loved these but I haven`t made them for years and never frozen them but I`m sure it will work

Thanks for this, Kittie. We had these tonight with a HM burger and salad, and DS19 who isn't a lover of baked potatoes said 'the potatoes are nice'. That's a big compliment, he rarely comments on food unless telling me he doesn't like something. I enjoyed them too.
