Just finished playing catch up on the thread! I'd had my old PC for 5 1/2 years and it was starting to make strange noises so I figured it was time to get a new one before the VAT rise. That may sound extravagant but my life revolves around my PC and it has to last me until DS starts school and I can go back to work and afford another one!
Been reading about making kids eat stuff. DH and I have agreed that we want DS to try stuff but that we won't force him to eat. I think I may take a different stance if it's something he usually likes and he's just being deliberately awkward by refusing to eat a dinner he usually eats. If it's stuff he genuinely doesn't like then I won't force him to.
I was a fussy child (I'm still a fairly fussy grown up!) I remember not liking egg and being told to eat it though I said it made me feel sick. Turns out I have a food intollerance to raw egg yolk. I also remember being forced to eat sprouts and having to resort to things like palming them up my sleeve and flushing them down the loo, throwing them out the window of the boat we were living on or, in worst case scenario. Cutting them into quarters, coating them in mashed potato and swallowing the result whole (on the plus side, I can now easily take any size of vitamin tablet with no problems!)
I'll be happy if he tries stuff. I'll try and involve him in the choice of what we have, by getting him to pick which vegetables he wants & so on. I also plan to get him cooking as young as possible. I know I was making my own tea/dinner at 8 so I'm sure I can get him doing that too. Then it won't matter if he fancies something different as he'll be cooking it!0 -
I still have a problem with greens and I'm 60!!
I have to nuke green stuff in the mixer and then drown it in the soup pot !;)

I have to confess that I cook different meals here
Lunches are easy - but everyone likes diferent things in their packed lunches (DD will not eat anything in her bread and butter - she takes a slice of ham/ little sausages/ cold chicken separately. DS1 eats anything. DS2 will only eat cheese sandwiches or cheese wraps made 'just so' He's on teh autistic spectrum and is incredibly fussy and has OCD tendencies. He will literally not eat for days if it isn't 'right' (I've tried - lots) He used to be great and then was ill frequently -and whatever he'd been eating before he was ill he wouldn't eat again. Hence cheese things - fairly bland, I guess. He's also smallish (5 in Jan and wears 2-3 trousers and only just gone into 3-4 tops) and will easily drop 4lbs in a week if unwell - it's a struggle to keep weight on him and he's not really interested in food - he will literally eat enough to stop him feeling hungry and that's it - you then can't even tempt him with something such as ice cream or chocolate!)
Main/ evening meals are where the fun starts. DS2 as above - I don't include him, as his food is very limited and, tbh, I'm juust thankful if I can get him to eat 3 meals a day (snacks/ desserts are a bonus) DS1 will eat lots of things, so is easy. DD has a limited range of about 5 meals that are rotated. Batch cookng is my major friend - I even do lots of roast potatoes and then nuke tehm and pop them in a hot oven for 5 mins to crisp. She loves steak (cooked rare) - I'm not good with red meat - I will spend teh evening in the loo if I eat it (other than a small amount of mince in something lke lasagne), so she has that by herself (only DS3 also likes it - and at 17 months he just has a bit of hers) DS1 & OH love prawns - I'm shellfish intolerant, so that's another meal that we don't have teh same.... etc etc. Most people think I'm mad but it's just normal to me... There are only a couple of meals that we can/ will all eat
There are lots of people requiring ((hugs)) at the mo - I hope all the poorly dads and children start to feel better soon.
It's cold at the mo -and not really even Winter yetDD has a 14tog duvet on her bed and has taken to sleeping with her dressing gown on. I do feel a bit mean - but the heating is on (5.50-8am and 7-10pm) I may put it on 1/2hr earlier in the evenings, as I'm really cold by 7 (and that's wearing thick socks and shoes, ajumper and a tshirt and sittng with a wheat bag. Our house 'eats' fuel though - 17 radiators and all in used rooms (the play room's the least used, but it's like a fridge in there even with the rad on, so I don't want ti turn it down) I see other people's electricty/ gas useage/ bills and I'm so jealous. I use about 125-130 units of electricity a week....:eek: (and taht's with keeping an eye on things and having a monitor!! And we have cavity wall insulation) And that'll increase as it gets colder/ darker....
I need to buy some more thick socks - I only have 4 pairs and 2 are getting thin... Just a quick one, just got some mince out the fridge, sell by date 11th November, but it has gone brown all the way through, smells a bit sweet but not awful , cooking it for a spag bol for the family for tomorrow, do you think it will be alright0

take it back to the shop, I would chance it if today was the eleventh and see how it smelled when cooked, as meat is obviously stinky if its off, but if its within date and dodgy looking, I'd take it back. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

Thanks Jackie, that is what i had decided to do as there was something not quite right about the smell when i was cooking it0

Eeek - in shock at price increases at Mr T (nearest big shop)
Basics toilet rolls 12 pk gone up 17p, Soya Milk gone up 26p in one price jump:eek::eek: - think I'll be going on rations at this rate
Not a happy bunny:(
Any ideas what to do if you are already on value brands and can't drop a brand any further:o
Was talking to an assistant earlier - she went to buy something the other day and it had gone up 39P - she's disgusted with them and she works there !
Hugs to all
xxWhen you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on
