Have been lurkign the last few days as bum hasnt managed to touch the chair.
Accordign to the health visitor at 14 weeks old and weighing 17lbs 7ozs my daughter is now 'obese' - not the fact that she was 8lbs 6ozs born or anything and is exactly the same weigh as her brother was at that age (well he was a few ounces heavier). No she is now obese and I have had to go to feeding her every 4 hours when she previously told me to feed her on demand :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: so I have a screaming baby every few hours now who is refusing to sleep even more. rang her for advice yesterday and said at her age Ben was on a 7oz bottle with a small yoghurt for lunch and her answer was 'well you have to live with her'. So she's completely contradicting herself now!! Owen's said she's not to have food but not so easy when I can hear her crying and I know that's her hungry cry.:(:(:(:(
Only problem is is if she gains too much weight they'll be concerned, if she loses too much weight - they'll be concerned so no idea what to do for the right!
I had two children within 13 months and the advice from the health visitors differed radically from the first to the second. The first time, I was not allowed to give solids until 12 weeks. The second time, I was not to give solids until six months! What rubbish. DD was an extremely hungry baby so we started on baby rice at 10 weeks and it settled her enormously. We had a strict routine too. She has grown up healthy and happy. DS wanted toast at 3 months so I started feeding him minute bits of toast a breakfast and he hasn't looked back either. All these dates and timetables are artificial. Do what you feel is right. You can always stop if it doesn't work out.0 -

Did anyone see river cottage the other night regarding making own yoghurt as i can't remember if he boiled the milk or not, hubby works on a dairy farm and can bring home milk thought i would have a go at making yoghurt as we eat loads and would work out free for us, well would need to buy first tub of live yoghurt.
Yes, I saw the H F-W prog and he definitely heated the milk. I believe he mentioned the temp but I just can't remember what it was now. The milk must have been scalded as he mentioned killing off the sour-making bacteria before he added the live yoghurt to it. It looked so damned easy I can't imagine why anyone would bother buying it any longer. I've already sterilised my thermos in preparation. Just need to pop out to the shops for my live starter youghurt now.0 -
Thanks BandT, i just need to go and get some live yoghurt, will do that tommorrow.0

Hi Margaret54. I knew you came from Northern Ireland when I read your post and you used that phrase 'run on'!! I hope Sammy can take comfort from all the supportive posts on here and stand her ground. Hope she's not too stressed with a hungry baby!0

My cheesemaking book says yoghurt can be made with any milk. Most suitable is sterilised or UHT as already heated to kill off bacteria. Ordinary pasteurised should be brought to boil and simmered for 2 - 3 mins then cooled to 110F/43C then stir in nat yogurt.0

Hi All
Right have had a day of it and have decided that HV can go and take a long walk off a short pier as far as Im concerned. Have been feeding Holly on demand - as and when she wants it. Have offered cooled boiled water in between which she seems to be enjoying too. As a result she is sat happily gurgling away in her chair at James Bond...........
Either way have decided that she will be starting properly weaning at 4 months like her brother did and not 6 months like the HV says. Well Ben was 14 weeks and having a yoghurt for lunch - as will Holly dolly if she wants it. Although she does get an 11pm rusk bottle.so mummy gets a few hours good sleep and holly has a nice full tummy for bedtime.
She is already on the hungrier baby milk and has been for about a month now.
Ben was 9lb 7ozs born so was always small and was always a fat little pumpkin. Now however he is a skinny ribbed football star!although you wouldnt think it - Im pretty sure he is ahvign a growth spurt as his menu today has been
7.15 - got up
7.30 - three  slices of hm toast with butter, small glass of orange juice.
8.45 - bowl of cereal (Mr T rice crispies - no sugar added!)
10am - 3 small petite filous yogurts!
12 - a turkey ham sandwich, an apple and a small bowl of raisins
1.30 - packet of chocolate stars (his front tooth fell out on thursday night so he brought them as his treat from tooth fairy money!)
2 - a medium sized banana
3 - two toasted rolls (so 4 halves in total) with a smidge of hm raspberry jam
4 - three slices of homemade malt loaf
and its now 5pm and hes starving again :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: there was me thinking my cupboards wouldn't take such a beating with stocking up as Id doubled up a fair bit last time on pasta/rice/sauces etc that were on offer but think I may need to think again! Hollow legs springs to mind. Although when you look at him with his top of you can see his ribs too! you'd never think it the way he eats!!! Although he has just asked for greens cheese for dinner and if he can have fruit skewers for pudding ---- least I know he has a good varied diet though!
Also cooked yummy dinner last night, a la gino d'acampo.
Fry off onion and carrot in a pan, add about 400g of mince and brown off. Cover in vegetable stock. Leave to simmer for half hour ish.
After simmering is done In another pot cook up spaghetti pasta, drain it off, mix in with mince mixture for about 30 seconds to coat spaghetti and serve topped with cheese shavings. Its a bit like a poor mans spaghetti but was yummy and filled us all up no problem.Time to find me again0 -
I've made yoghurt and it was fine. If you use UHT milk then you dont need to boil because it's sterile. If you use ordinary milk then you have to boil it first .0

Hi there,
I've been making our youghurt for a few weeks now and it's fab we get through SO much, I end up making it every other day and my flask is a 3/4 litre one. It really is that easy you just bring the milk up to just boiling and turn down to simmer for 2 mins to scald and then cool it to 100 F before adding the live yoghurt and pouring into flask best way to test is if you haven't a thermometer is a clean finger - it should feel warm but not hot. I add a couple of heaped dessert spoons of dried milk powder well whisked into the milk before I heat it to make my yoghurt extra thick cos that's how we like it.
I send my OH to work with a tub of yogurt with a dollop of homemade jam in it, a tub of fruit salad and a couple of muffins for his break (he starts at 6, finishes at 2 so has breakfast at work and then late lunch when he gets back) his colleagues are quite intrigued, one even asked about how to make the yoghurt.0
