I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Sammy - I agree that you should ignore the HV (and possibly complain about her if she is the same one who keeps reporting you to all and sundry on no grounds at all - say you think she's victimising you!) If your baby is happy, healthy & feeding when she's hungry then, unless you are forcing her to finish huge bottles of formula or expressed milk (which doesn't sound like it's the case) then there is no problem - apart from with your HV!

I certainly can't bear to think of your poor daughter being hungry just because of some stupid woman who doesn't know what she's talking about!

Some of the problems are practical ones though Kitts.. if the man takes a job an hour away then its a long day; the busfares can easily be £50 a week, many people up here pay that in busfares. And then if he was divorced & had to make a payment to the CSA for his kids, that isnt counted in when it comes to HB or CTB - it can be actually impossible to live. I know its complicated and nobody's fault as such...just trying to show that people sometimes do have valid reasons etc. :)
SK, if you were to do everything your HV tells you and have a starving baby screaming all night then you would be a bad mum. And demented. LOL

    Morning guys.

Cold and wet here, took eldest to football party in rain luckily was local.
She enjoyed herself but been right tired grump this morning.
Hubby picked her up as hes day off but had interveiw in south wales today so been gone most of morning hes not sure about the job and suitability but breezed interveiw which is good practice for him, still waiting to hear about job he really wants.

Thanks grandma for advice did make homemade wipes few years ago resusable ones cut up old flannels soaked in water with essential oil and airtight tub but hubby hated them but might bring them back for mucky hands and wee and just buy shop brought ones for poo , already use reusable nappies which saved us small fortune over years with 3rd child they pay for themselves.

Sammy kn try not to let hv worry you.
Both mine big babies well not big born but piled it on and 1st was off perfcentile was so worried but my hv said ahh she will slim down and never worried.

I would maybe try hubgrier baby forumula, up the oz a little
dont forget to offer water or diluted juice maybe inbetween feeds.
every baby goes through growth spurt.
If you want to start solids earlier i would start off early maybe just one meal a day for you breckfast or lunch whatever works best for you and I would try a baby cereal as quite filling or fromage frais maybe for next month or so.
Then gradually introduce fruit and veg purees alongside finger foods at 6months.

It could be crying over teething though too so you might want to try calgel or some calpol, teething rings that go in fridge maybe.

I grew up in small welsh town not far from merthyr, ebbw vale were jobs are scarce.
Most of my 6th form had part time jobs.
But home town had very few well paid above min wage fulltime work.
Biggest employer probably is public sector large hospitals, schools ect.
My mam said last night that stokkes te only greengrocers in town gone bust so they only got small tesco, iceland, farmfoods and waitrose which is pricey to shop at.
The house prices still really high mams been trying to sell hers but average wage would secure morgage.
Most people in reality do commute to newport or cardiff for work because they have too.

I did it for a while as had shop job in cardiff centre had to be at train station for 7am on cold platform as train once an hour used to be nearly 6quid return back then a day.
I managed it as well as having anoter job nights in nursing home which was just outside the town had no car so used to walk 2miles each way down country lanes to get there.

I did eventually move to cardiff and jobs seemed easy to comeby but that was few years ago. They have lots of callcentres and banks there which tend to pay more than shop jobs as have few mates who still live in cardiff.

My closest mates been on and off jsa and never had problems finding work there over recent years but lots of jobs been temporary, my cousin lives down bay just been made redundant, hos girlfreind worked at bhs but ses been laid off too.

When i lived in small town in wiltshire I was one of many who commuted into bath for work by train.

Know lots of people travel to london from afar as leeds/swansea for work.

Im in bristol and admit during the crunch jobs were scarce but last year or so seen lots of jobs advertised in suberbs and centre which Some interested me but havent got the childcare as need to work around hubby who commutes to southwales by car every day was paying 70quid a week in petrol hopefully reduce now hes using micra, luckily teh company pay his bridge costs as thats massive cost.

So exited getting laminate flooring hubby got it in sale plus staff discount.
Our existing cheap beige carpet is awful beyond repair and bubbled but landlord refuses to replace defective flooring as put new flooring down in kitchen and bathroom ourselves but lounge and hallway huge so cost was worrying but im embaressed to bring people round as carpets scagged in some areas, stains that wont come out spent fortune steam cleaning it in past with rug doctor and its bubbled a lot.
Hoping laminate be more child freindly.

Want to do something cheap and nice this afternoon with eldest as reward for being good but stick as rains quite bad. All I can think of is softplay but thats hubbys idea of hell!

gailey - re wee on carpet - don't bother with shake & vac. You can use bicarb which has ess oilss added (few drops - keep some ready made in a pot). I just use a spray of vinegar and water (the same one that I use for cleaning mirrors, wiping sinks etc). I may get around to making lavender vinegar (steep flowers in vinegar) to use next year - if I can be bothered - to 'prettify' the smell.

    Morning all!
Unfortunately a pattern is emerging of doing mse shopping and then OH feels the need to have a drinkies, then feels the need to smoke, which isn't very mse at all. Then because he has smoked he needs nicotine patches. I'm sure he has been on patches for a year now! It's just ridiculous, I'm hating the financial and health impact. Of course I end up having a few drinks too and a ciggie or three.
    ...

He's a lovely man, and a great father and husband but really struggles with this issue. And now I think I am struggling a bit with it too! Perhaps losing the extra income is going to be a help in the long run as we simply won't have enough money to spend on this idiocy! We are going to see old friends tonight too, so that will be a fairly alcoholic evening.

And then we will probably sit down on monday and wonder where all our money has gone! Aaaargh!

Brew your own wine/beer and roll you own ciggies if you only smoke a few with a drinkies. You have to have some pleasures in life or it's all total slavery.
Pretty cheap brew kits available and there are loads of rolling tobaccos out there at a fraction of the cost of 'real' ciggies.
