Just got back form the halloween family fun night at the school. The boys loved it, especially snips, he was a zombie tiger wizard. Coddy (ds1) just swanned off with £2.50 and didn't see him till it was time to leave.
The community centre have decided all the proceeds are going towards school trips, pantomimes, and keeping extra staff at the school. This is because of the government cuts, so the extra £1000 will pay towards for four school trips.
Every little helps and its fun too.
Had a lovely seafood and chickpea tandoori curry with rice, snips wolfed it down and kept going back for more. He's love seafood.
Still got a half curry and rice left, so going to do egg fried rice, curry and maybe some dhal to go with it.0 -

Well done annie! What a lovely time you are having lately! :j
Took DD to play with a friend at a soft play centre today (entrance free!) and friend cooked us lunch. There were yummy lefotvers whcih she said her family wouldn't eat so I took them home for mine and OH's dinner. It helps to have no shame when economising.
Everyone on this thread is helping me feel a bit more positive. Payday tomorrow thank goodness - DD is on her last nappy tonight!2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0 -
Hippeechiq (love your name!) I don't think you get a black star for posting your heartfelt response to something someone else has said. We are all coming from different places and situations and it is good to be reminded that something which seems so obvious to one person might look/feel very differently to someone else. I have no idea how to square the housing need circle in a way that's fair to everyone - incentives to downsize are are one thing - compulsion is a whole different thing and distressing to lose your home on someone else's say so for whatever reason - can't see that yesterdays announcements will help much but don't want to stir up that debate again or it will be me getting a black star so will stop there.
Congrats on the job, annieG.
Feeling rather down myself these last few days - just cannot get up and going - need some of gailey's spirit, I think.Jan 2011 GC £300/£150.79 (2 adults, 2 teens, working dog, includes food/cleaning/toiletries)0 -

We has the same conversation earlier on this year. GP wouldn't let me get sterilised, as i'm too young. so my OH had a vasectomy instead. Were determined no more little accidents are going to turn up. WE BOTH decided it was best and to be honest since he had the operation 70% of shared stress has suddenly disappeared. No more running to the shop or clinics for contraceptive, i know it doesn't feel good right now. But it does get better over time.
The boys are in bed coddy's reading his book and snips totally flat out.
Just checking if there's anything on over half term where i am. Seems to a few free and or reasonably cheap things on for the kids. so planning next week out already.0 -
Hippeechiq i echo Seasalt's comment. No black star is warranted. Diversity of opinion is not a bad thing. Gosh, if we only associated with like minded people then our lives would be very boring and we would never learn open mindedness or tolerance of others opinions. In my own view we are each entitled to express our feelings/concerns and opinions providing that we do not intentionally cause pain or distress to any one else. I happen to agree with the comment you made so passionatley, but even if i didn't i would tolerate your right to express yourself in such a way.
There are various opinions, both on this forum and others i frequent in cyberspace, that i sometimes disagree with, but i tend to think that silence can give the impression of agreement of the opinions being aired, and while I dislike being confrontational, sometimes it is necessary to confront an alternate opinion to our own, and in doing so I believe that we can in some way contribute to a more comprehensive and representational gathering of people (on the forum, just as in real life/society) and also I believe that in doing so we can perhaps broaden and inform the minds of others by sharing with them our differing opinions.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Another marathon catch-up session tonight - as soon as I get off this thread you're all on here gassing away! :rotfl:
Welcome to rachel6188 and to monty (please don't come up with a wittier username - we'll all be so disappointed; congrats to annieg and BIG HUGS to hippeechiq - sorry you're feeling so emotional, but can well understand why! You might be interested in this article from the Grauniad - which would seem to imply that people like, for example, your DD, don't have anything to fear. Let's hope so and hope she's one of the 290,000 they're talking about...
I am very pleased with myself as I made a totally from scratch dinner with bits sculling around the place today: made a batch of pancakes using some Asda smartprice flour (still available at 42p!!), a couple of thin-shelled eggs one of my elderly hens keeps trying to fob off on me AND - super result - some past-its-sell-by-date dried milk. Then fried off some Aldi cheapo leeks whose outsides were looking decidedly mank; chopped up and added 2 chicken thighs left over from a previous meal and the end of a packet of ham which clearly wasn't going to be eaten; sprinkled some more of that asda flour over the top and stirred in some of that made-up dried milk; a bit of value mozzarella (best ingredient in the world for less than 50p) and some bogof cheddar grated. Rolled up filling b) in pancakes a), more bogof cheddar and bunged under grill. SCRUMOLA, plus there were leftover pancakes which kids had for pudding and will have again for breakfast (so sue me - they love pancakes!). Very very cheap and very filling comfort food for such a cold day - it was MINUS 4 in my drive this morning, MINUS 4 - and I live in the SOUTH, mark you, before all you Jocky-types start chuntering on about how you'd all be out in nothing but your underwear in such balmy weather. When I went to feed the hens this morning they were one giant ball of hens and it took me 10 minutes to defrost the car. And it's still only October and the clocks haven't even gone back yet. :mad:0 -
So glad this place can accomodate a difference of opinion, so many places sound like an echo chamber or the houses of parliament where it's either all nodding dogs and 'ayes' or complete uproar.
People can sharpen each others chins, it's a good thing as long as it remains civil.0
