Well done annie! What a lovely time you are having lately! :j
Took DD to play with a friend at a soft play centre today (entrance free!) and friend cooked us lunch. There were yummy lefotvers whcih she said her family wouldn't eat so I took them home for mine and OH's dinner. It helps to have no shame when economising.
Everyone on this thread is helping me feel a bit more positive. Payday tomorrow thank goodness - DD is on her last nappy tonight!
Glad this thread is positive amongst the gloomy news.
well done on leftovers.
I use cloth nappies so never run out its quite reassuring to know they there even if you do a mix of both.
I may have to duck for cover soon but
Was active poster on last similar thread.
completly missed reason it was stopped and another started.
Have been worried about posting stuff that irrelevent or too chatty.
This has impacted in me posting less therefore less gailey waffling about her day.
However felt I made few like minded freinds on here and often talk about life usually financially related and most posts do seem to be what we cooked or preparing for winter that kid of thing, or reccomending cheap places to buy with odd recipie thrown in.
I think this thread can achive both freindly like minded chat along with useful stuff.
I do have a suggestion but not that technie so not sure how to do it.
could have links to certain hints/tips like they do on grocery challange that way reader can read what they want and contribute in chat could be called tough times challange.
I think it was pretty hard for the spending reveiw to happen and effects lots of people for it not to be mentioned as those in public sector woried about their jobs, some people worried if they have to move house ect its understandable how it could mean for a lot that times even tougher.
Yes theres another board the economy but they not a freindly bunch on there and quite bias least theres a balance here.
On completly different note went to pta event at school arrived at 7pm to help they dident need me until 8 but even when did help felt like bit of spare part, baby was very sick so had to keep an eye on eldest and left at 9.45 as was late feeling bad couldent stay to clear up.
Hoping rest of pta not been !!!!!ing about me was very diffcult without childcare luckily another parent minded daughter and she had lovley time and hopefully lots raised for school.
Im probaly just being completly paranoid but find pta cliquey and hard to get involved as they dident send me emails until last min as got email address wrong and put my name down on rota which seemed to be ignored and they all best of freinds and know each other.
Thankfully babys fine and got straight to sleep do hope shes not coming down with something.

I totally understand both kittie and katholic's (and everyone else's) concern about what should and shouldn't be discussed and I can't come up with the answer. However, I just hate seeing so much issues going on within this series of threads. This is such a great place, a refuge for all of us. I for one have found tremendous support over the last few days while I was a bit low and I would hate for that to go away, or be littered with so many negative feelings.0

would you like to start a discussion thread to deal with those issues katholicos? I do appreciate that discussion is needed but the `tough` threads were started with the aim of volunteering actual tips and advice
Do you want think there should be 3 threads then? This one, one for discussion and the new one you have started?
That would be confusing imho.
I'm inclined to agree a bit that this thread is a bit hard to keep up with atm and many post would be better suited on the Daily Thread.0 -

Cut off a TINY corner. Stand over sink. Pour yourself a glass of orange juice, or have an extra strong mint to hand. If it is not all right, you will be spitting it into the sink in 0.47 nanoseconds and reaching for the juice or the mint to take the taste away. Mozzarella is one of the few foods which you can't be on the fence about - if it's off, it tastes DISGUSTING. :rotfl:0 -

If i thought it would be necessary to start a thread about certain elements of 'toughness' i would have done so already, i don't believe i have ever read on any of the 'it's tough' threads, any post that specifically stated that discussion on certain tough challenges we face would not be allowed. I fact, there already is a hints and tips thread isn't there, and another one for 'preparing for winter' and still another for 'really old style living' .
All of them informative and helpful, and now i see you've started another 'uncluttered' thread so really, there isn't much point in me starting another thread, is there?
In addition to this, i would have to say that i have lost count of the people who have left comments in this thread saying that they were despairing until they read about other peoples struggles in this thread. I appreciate there is a place for accurate and easily accessable information, but there are many such thread, as i have shown above, so why can't a thread be informative and a place to discuss our concerns which do/will/ have a negative impact upon our financial situations and our very homes?Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I just started a new help thread and have managed to find links to the past relevant threads. The first one started in 2006 and the sad thing is that we should all have been through the hard times by now. Instead it looks as though it will continue for at least 6 years.
Good luck to all the readers of this thread. Chat is important but so is a help thread0 -
Hi everyone!
I've had a few down days - but got my @rse in gear and the smile is plastered back on - upwards and onwards . . .won't let the barstewards grind me down!
As its looking more and more likely than the job will end - I guess I'll be one of the first 500,000 public sector jobs going but what the hell - its only a job! 23 days days to go and counting ...working really hard to try and get all my lovely caseloads ladies into work and training opportunities before I goI'm a bit puzzled as we keep getting told that we are on the road to economic recovery but the jobs are as scarce as ever???
Anyhoooooo... with the OS theme - I've got to the end of my WW2 books - feel very humble that my OS skills pale in comparision to how they managed to make do and mend
We have a little outlet shop near us that trades with approved foods etc so there are some great bargains on branded food to be had but despite the huge discounts on branded foods, I can still buy the non branded equivilent as cheap - if not cheaper - from (God bless 'em) Aldi or Lidl
Good new is that DD2 (in gap year) has got a job! 25 hours a week working at the local animal sanctuary ...although I feel that the benefit of her wages is likely to be cancelled by a influx of 'new' pets to the Charlie householdnot very OS if I'm losing my job bit TBH I'd rather eat beans and have my pets than eat steak and be without
I am quite surprised that, despite the inital flurry of merchandise into the shops at the begnning of August, that C-mas seems to be on the back burner commercially. I would like to be cynical and say that C-Mas is cancelled this year but I guess that (like everyone else) I'll rally round and that Christmas (food, booze, presents and all) will go ahead..but in a more OS format! From the books that I've been reading about the home front - a bar of scented soap, a box of matches or a lemon was considered a 'good' gift in the war yearsThe HM wine is coming on very nicely so not a lot to spend out on there and if I can make up up HM hampers with HM fudge / jam / chutney / biscuits / oils.
Its tough - its getting tougher but hang on in there and keep smiling:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

I love the thread just the way it is, it is helpful, supportive, interesting, sometimes sad, sometimes funny. I lurked for months and have only recently started posting regularly, as a relative newcomer it certainly hits the spot for me. Coping when times are tough..... isn't that what we are doing with a great deal of camararderie.0

So sorry you have been having such a tough time of it and that you will be losing your job. I really feel for you. Congratulations to your DD2 :TGrocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I found mozzarella in the fridge last week that DD was supposed to have taken in for cookery but had obviously taken a newer packet instead, the packet had swollen like a balloon and the cheese itself looked a pale lime colour, that packet was about 5 days out of date,so I personally wouldnt risk it, that said its def worth having a good look at it to see if it looks wrong or not.
Am finding it really tough to know what to post and what not to post atm, healthy expression of differing opinions I really appreciate, to me I think that all the worry and tension of cuts and changes are making people less tolerant and short tempered. I was heartened by the good natured agree to disagree philosophy today and would hope that it will be like that in the real world. Currently I hear so many people making comments in the real world that I know last year they would not have even thought, it just shows how under pressure people are. Its like a giant pressure cooker and my personal worry is that it will eventually explode.
I am sure this will probably be deemed as off topic, but in some ways as relationships grow they evolve and this thread has evolved too. I know that it may seem silly but there are many days when I would struggle to cope without the support of all the posters here.
The previous threads were a true inspiration to me when I read them through, and the hints and tips were extremely valuable, however the relationships built within this group I feel is just as valuable for the same reasons. As things get tougher and they most definitely will we will need to pull together to get through - in my mind its just like communities working together during the war.
I would like to believe there is room for hints and tips and support for all who are finding things tough, wherever the group may be.0
