  • charlies-aunt - I'm so in awe of how well you are handling your work situation. I really do hope another job will come your way very soon. Wonderful news about DD2 though, I would think it'll be hard but such fulfilling work.

    Hear, hear, lovelife!

The title of this thread is it's tough, it will get better etc - and I for one am really heartened to hear for example from Annie56 who started off (forgive me, Annie!) with posts about how carpy her life was because of ex and blonde floozie, and has now had a real Mills & Boon episode with Monty-Martin! Surely that epitomises the title of the thread? And this on the same thread as links to other sites, recommendations for cheap places to buy stuff, and frugal recipes. Plus, I am sure - not to put words into their mouths - that eg frugal and katholicos have gained much valuable support knowing that people are wishing their families well when they're poorly.

I agree that it can get a bit chatty - I've had to catch up quite a few times - but that's not to say it's not very useful. And PP posted to say keep it on topic some 10 pages back - that's all it needs if we go off on a tangent I think.

I am in the lucky position of not being terribly affected by the spending review, but it has really opened my eyes to see those on here who are - and because it's people I "know", I really do feel for them, so am rooting for them and want to offer support where I can. Hopefully I will be able to at some point, but I can offer group hugs in the meantime! :grouphug::grouphug:
  • With respect Kittie,, I've had a look at the original "tougher" thread which began with some useful advice but ended with a discussion on breastfeeding and sterilisation. It just happens on threads like these and I for one get very confused by all the similar threads like "really OS living", this thread and the declutter thread and now the new thread you started tonight.
I used to post on the daily Thread but with a new job and a much busier life, I felt I couldn't keep up with everyone's news and just keep in touch with many of those posters in other ways. Lately I have felt the same with this thread and feel guilty if I don't mention everyone's good news or comisserate with those in pain.
    I don't know the answer unfortunately. :(

Started watching question time buy most of panel annoying me.

forgot to mention although hubby hates driving the nissan micra it costs 24quid to fill a tank compared to 70quid a for bmw and hubby thinks it might last a week 62miles a day, 5days a week as it cant go much faster than 50miles an hour but saves him getting extra points for speeding on his licence that would be huge saving of 35-45quid a week so hopefully we be better off but still need rid of bmw and find affordable people carrier within budget.

Hubbys been offered a 2nd interveiw with another diy retailer on sat but unsure if the company may not suceed and might be step back for him plus more travel, the one hes really holding out for still dragging there feet and he says he cant keep ringing them.

Hubby has huge hole in jeans he wants me to sew patch on them but worried it will look rubbish.

Might attempt new pram blanket tommrow and get sewing machine out again as miss my sewing.
Want to make my own version of jml snuggles which is just huge fleece poncho.

wilkos/poundstretchers used to do small baby blankets for quid each.

Charlies aunt hope things improve for you.

Kidcat you it nail on head freindships have evolved on this specific thread and one that was closed, feel like I know people, everyones been supportive had so many lovley pms in past, new posters always been warmly welcomed, feel comfortable discussing stuff here , differences in opinion have been interesting and I really dont think there have been any rows or bad feeling as we agreed amicably to disagree or agree as so many different points of veiw raised issues even i not not given much thourght too but have since.

I fear I may have to bin the cheese so annoyed with myself when stressed out shopping with kids often accidentally pick up short dated stuff.

Was talking to friend earlier and she says yesterdays announcement will cost them £300 per month, she will lose all her child benefit and some other stuff relating to pensions in public sector. Now I appreciate that her husband must be earning enough to pay high rate tax but the idea that all of a sudden they will no longer have £300 per month brought home just how hard it is going to be, I know they spend irresponsibly and I have been trying to encourage her to change her spending habits. I think looking at an idea in principle - ie remove CB from high tax bracket, but in practise when you see it in practise, it is so much more difficult. They are heavily in debt atm and in reality she has no real input into their spending, she buys shopping, he sorts rest. And as she uses CB for shopping I see the panic on her face.

On a much happier note, I called into Asda on way home earlier and got a wonderful trove of whoopsies. Our local Asda is 24hr so reductions are pitiful but the store near the old house closes at 10pm so has brilliant reductions - tbh my shopping bill has risen substantially since moving as I cant do a whoopsie run every few days. Amongst my haul I got a box of samphire - 20p. HOwever as DD pointed out I have no idea what to do with it ( my rationale for buying was that for 20p we could experiment and if we hated it then had lost nothing!) so any suggestions gratefully received. :)
  • Samphire tastes a lot like asparagus, I think you cook it in a similar way. It's delicious lightly boiled and served with butter as a side green veg! :)

Thanks, I knew someone would have some idea as to its taste etc, in fact when DD asked what I planned I replied "No idea" and she laughed and said "you are gonna ask on the MSE thread then?":rotfl:

  • Hi There,
Can i join in please? i have read a load of the pages on here and see the same worries i have echoed. I privately rent my flat, and was struggling after i lost my evening job, just about managed the bills etc with my 37hpw job, but now they have reduced the hours to 27... under WTC threshold, and now not sure if i can even apply for help for my rent and CT... are they still open to new applications? cuz while i am looking for a job with full time hours my wages will not cover my bills.
I dont know what to do tbh as i have my bank chasing me to pay off my overdraft, which is all charges they took after i dipped into my overdraft briefly, which they hadnt informed me had been cancelled, so 'apparently' they are sending it to the underwriters (3 weeks ago) but it doesnt stop the intimidating phone calls and the threats to take the money out of the othe account i have, which just has enough for the rent this month. which if they do, means the rent wont get paid, and private landlord....

I really feel up against it, and to top it off, have just had the guy i love, tell me he cant handle a relationship as he has too much stress and cant afford to pay me back the £500 he owes me.

    :(
