Hi all
I was just wondering if any of you do geneology and could recommend a good site (which doesn't cost too much)?

Now settled on teaching three Memory Systems:
Link system - good for creating order in stuff you need to remember
Body List System - for creating short term memory hooks
Route System - for creating long term memories for stuff you learn
Instead of just showing some Mind Map examples I am creating a brand new series of hand drawn Mapplications (applications of Mind Maps)
1. For studying from books or written text
2. Studying from a speaker / lecturer
3. Time Management / planning
4. Foreign Languages
5. Planning a project
6. Planning an essay or presentation
7. Organising a meeting - including dividing up responsibilites
8. Studying Science
9. Studying Literature
10 TA-DA lists
Does any smart person out there see anything else that I should include in this list? Feeling a little Bleurgh! on the anti-b's and not firing on all cylinders IYSWIM?

That sounds brilliant MG :T I really like the list of ten things you can use mind mapping for, that sounds really useful! :jMemory_Girl wrote: »That is a VERY cool idea - could do it around the wheel of life to try and maintain some semblence of balance.
Thanks hon

A cool idea indeed! I once met a woman (quite a scary one actually - she was cooking slugs when I met her :rotfl:) who was involved in LOTS of different projects etc, work, voluntary work, committees of this and that, and spent time all over the place. She showed us a mind map of her responsibilities in every bit of her life, and then had a kind of wheel thing with everything on all coloured in showing where things were in terms of importance and time etc - was very impressive! :j
Oh, and by the way, thought I'd let you know about the most daft revelation I had while at your seminar on SaturdayWas far too embarrassed to mention it at the time
I always do a mind map first thing when I get to work, putting on everything from my diary I know I need to do, and going through emails adding things. I usually end up with a branch for work on my project, one for meetings, one for admin, and one for 'other'.
I'd (gosh I can't believe I'm admitting this, it's so embarrassing!:rotfl:) been wondering what the best way to tick things off was once they were done :rotfl: Because I was just putting little ticks, and it wasn't obvious what I'd done and what was still left, and I was getting all confused :rotfl:
Anyway - when you said about the black and white mind maps the kids could colour in - I had my revelation :rotfl: So yesterday I did one just in blue pen, as usual - but didn't bother colouring in the branches. When prioritising, I put a little red star by the next couple of things I needed to do, then scribbled over it in green pen when I'd done it :rotfl:
Sooooo simple, so daft that I can't even believe I was struggling with it, but soooo helpful! :j :rotfl:0 -
maryb, I also have taken early retirement and wonder what I want to do now. I do some voluntary work which I really enjoy (happy to work for nothing although when I was getting paid I felt taken advantage of-work that one out lol)

I'm still doing a bit of work on a very part time basis which is nice because I get paid a bit but have got rid of the bits of the job that made me stressed but at the same time it cuts up my time a little bit, so, for example, I haven't got round to doing any part time university courses which I thought I would like, because I happened to be busy at the start of September. That, and the fact that I change my mind constantly about whether I want to do domestic things (craft, cooking, gardening) or more intellectual things, whether I want to get fit or whether I am happy being more rounded and a bit cozy (fits with the cooking)
I feel I'm living what MG calls a 'small life' because I'm not settling to anything and TBH I think I needed to for a while after leaving work to let the stress out. But I am in danger of drifting so that the smallest thing takes all dayIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -

When I first retired (9months ago) I felt guilty about not working, I'd never been out of work since I was 17. It's taken time to realise that it's ok to sit down and read all afternoon if that's what I want to do, so I bought a kindle and I'm happily working my way through the free books, but I do think I need some sort of plan for the new year. The worst thing is the internet, I could spend all day on it.0

Right I've borrowed DH's sat-nav, and am sort of psyching myself up to get going (plenty of time).
Driving in the dark is NOT my thing. I can do it if I HAVE to.
Tonight I don't HAVE to, I WANT to.
Big difference.
I even wnet out the past couple of nights so I would'nt be such a wuss. I know its stupid, but I will get over it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -
