TV - now that is new. At least, we eventually had one - that's ONE in the living room and with the programmes chosen by the parents - not TVs all over the house.
Well I did'nt have homework at primary school, and minimal at Secondary(1969-1974). My kids were given homework at primary and high school. My DGD got homework aged 4 and its increased now she is 9.0 -
Yep, I'm with you fantasia (I wrote fantastic!!!) I don't see that infants and primary school kids should be given homework.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

About homework, in our school homework is started at age 4, with reading book. p2 the writen homework starts and it gets increasingly more as the years go on. In p6 and p7 the children have to do practice transfer tests on top of their homework and also at the weekends, and near the time of the transfer test the children are required to come in on a saturday morning for a mock exam.
I do think reading should be set as a homework, but not spellings and maths or english as well, it's just too much. Nearly every parent I have spoke to agrees.LBM 04/10:j

RE: Homework:
For my son's entire school life we had homework. Once he got to middle school at 9 it increased until upper school 13)where it increased again. He hated school with a vengance and homework just added to it. His thinking was "I go to school to do school work I refuse to do any more at home."
I tried every thing possible including bribery, nothing worked. Eventually, I spoke to the school and said " I am no longer prepared to do the homework battle, every night. You deal with it" They gave him lunchtime detentions - he did the work quite happily, in school and we had peaceful family time when he came home.
He suffered from poor health during his school life and frankly was exhausted after school.
He opted to go to college and once there I had to stop him working all hours.:j

Re:homework, I remember having to learn spellings at school from about 8 upwards but nothing else until grammar school (1960's) dd and ds had reading until Middle School (9 up) but by the time it came to GCSEs and A levels the course work was quite horrendous and very often turned into family projects just to get them done. I was glad they both went away to uni, I needed the rest lol.0
